Love for Lance

Love for Lance Lance McLean, 22 yrs, recently relapsed with his leukemia. This page is for updates.

01/26/2026

After two long years of cancer treatment, Lance has officially finished chemotherapy and rang the bell — and we couldn’t be more proud of him. 💪🔔
Now he’s ready to move into the next chapter of his life. Lance is currently finishing college and is on track to graduate in December with a degree in Supply Chain Management.
He’s actively looking for an internship, but it’s been challenging because he hasn’t been able to work or gain traditional experience while undergoing chemotherapy and being immunocompromised. What he does bring is resilience, dedication, and a strong work ethic shaped by everything he’s overcome.
If anyone has leads, connections, advice, or opportunities in supply chain, logistics, operations, or related fields — we would truly appreciate it. Even sharing this post helps more than you know. ❤️
Thank you all for the support you’ve shown along the way!

💛 A Huge Milestone for Lance! 💛
Today was a day we’ve been praying for… Lance finished his final major step in cancer treatment. While there will still be follow-up appointments and check-ins over the next two years, this moment feels like a breath of hope and healing.
As we look back over the past two years, we are overwhelmed with gratitude. The road has not been easy, but the love and support from our family and friends have carried us through every single day. We truly couldn’t have done this without you — your prayers, your messages, your hugs, and your unwavering faith have meant everything. 💕
And today, Lance had his port removed — a powerful reminder that this chapter is closing and a new one is beginning.
We are so thankful… and so ready to move forward.

We are beyond grateful for a very special message that touched our hearts deeply. Huge thanks to Jeremy Peña for taking the time to send a video message to Lance, offering words of encouragement and support on his cancer journey. Your kindness, strength, and thoughtfulness mean more than you know.
An extra special thank you to Vivian Barclay for making this happen — your love and effort brought a smile to Lance's face and lifted his spirits in a big way. We are so blessed to have such incredible people in our corner.
From the bottom of our hearts — thank you. 🧡

Today was supposed to be a regular day of chemo and a spinal tap — as regular as that sounds for us — but things took a turn. Lance woke up with a fever this morning, and we’re now in the emergency room waiting for test results.
With his port, even a simple fever is considered an emergency. It’s scary, uncertain, and overwhelming — but we’re holding onto hope.
Lance is in good spirits, and we’re staying hopeful for clear answers and a fast recovery. Please keep those prayers coming — we truly believe in their power. 💛🙏

Please keep Lance in your prayers.
After two trips to the ER, he was taken by ambulance to the hospital. Doctors are running cultures and suspect a staph infection. He’s also starting finals this week, which makes this even more difficult. We’re hoping and praying for answers and a quick recovery so he can be released soon. Thank you for your support and prayers.

Lance was released from the hospital Monday night around 5. I received a call from Texas Children's Tuesday evening around 9:30 and was told that we needed to return to the hospital ASAP. Lance's blood cultures had grown something abnormal and he would need to be treated with iv antibiotics. We are at the ER waiting for answers, but have been told that he will be in the hospital for at least 48 hours. One more bump in the road- but we will keep fighting! 🎗️

Lance has had a rough time lately. When I think of all he has been through, it somehow sounded like a terrible Christmas/hospital song. He is currently in the hospital and getting the higher dose Blenna. This is the chemo that caused his neurotoxicity last time. He is tolerating it but has been battling high fevers, low blood pressure and rapid heart rates. If his blood pressure is not stabilized, he will be moved to ICU to get a medication that has to be monitored very closely. We are praying that doesn't happen. Please keep Lance in your prayers and enjoy my 12 Days of Hospital Life Song. 🎄
12 blood cultures
11 daily pills
10 days in the hospital
9 nights in the hospital
8 games of Uno
7 different nurses
6 bags of Blenna
5 monitors beeping
4 blood transfusions
3 bolus infusions
2 iv's
And 1 really tired mom.

Lance was supposed to have a clinic visit tomorrow to check his platelets and receive an IVIG- (Intravenous immunoglobulin). IVIG is a dose of donated immune system antibodies that will help with his hemoglobin and white blood cells. This morning Lance woke up and wasn't feeling good so we called the doctor and changed our appointment for today. We rushed out the door and headed downtown. Bloodwork was done and it was determined that he would need platelets again. About an hour into the IVIG infusion, Lance had an allergic reaction and began shaking uncontrollably. The tiny room flooded with doctors, nurses and the crash cart. The infusion was stopped and he was given a steroid and another medication was ordered to stop the shaking. Blood pressure and heart rate was extremely high. It was very scary. The shaking finally stopped and the doctors decided that he would not finish the rest of the IVIG (he had about half), but he would still need the platelets. He will rest for an hour and then receive the platelets. We are praying for an easy and event free transfusion so we can go home. In the season of giving thanks- we are thankful for our quick responding doctors and nurses and the excellent care they provide.

It's been a LONG day at Texas Childrens. We
arrived at 7:15 and did blood work. Numbers were all good enough to be able to start chemo. Lance started with a spinal tap and chemo in his spine. He was given 1 hour of hydration before the next chemo. That chemo infusion took an hour. He then got a Bolus which is a rapid dose of fluids, vitamins and minerals that takes about 30 minutes. He's now on his 3rd chemo infusion while will infuse for 90 minutes. He will have 2 hours of hydration afterwards. Hopefully he will be able to clear the chemo, but if not he'll have more hydration until he's clear. I'm so thankful for having the day off of work to be able to go with Lance to the doctor and spend the whole day with him. As always, Lance is taking it all in stride and continues to have a positive attitude. I couldn't be any luckier to have such an amazing and strong son. 🎗️

Happy 23rd birthday to Lance! 🎂
Lance began his birthday celebration at the clinic for his weekly appointment. His treatment has been on hold for 5 weeks because his numbers have been too low. Today his numbers finally were high enough to resume treatment! Over the next 24 hours, Lance will take 108 chemo pills. We are thankful that treatment can resume, but the side effects are rough. As always, Lance remains positive- he's the strongest person I know! 🎗️

Supporting the McLeans

Wednesday, August 8, 2018 the McLean family was dealt a devastating blow. Their 16 yr old son, Lance, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Treatment for this type is 3-3.5 years. The first 8-9 months is the most intense. He is receiving treatment at Texas Children’s Hospital, in the Houston Medical Center. Once released he will be going back and forth to the hospital for more treatments. Of course this hospital is out of network with the insurance they have thru FBISD. Both Peggy and Ian are beloved teachers in Richmond, most of their students and parents have met their children also. There is a go fund me (created by a fellow teacher, Josh Poulis) account to help support their medical bills. https://www.gofundme.com/helping-lance-mclean Meal train https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/l9o72m Please stay tuned to this page for updates, various fundraisers and to show support to the family.
