Throwback Thursday…Rodeo and Relationships…Two of the Backbones of Houston Haven our volunteers and relationships! 🎉🎉🎉MEET US MONDAY🎉🎉🎉! We are excited to have you get to know one of our former guests Kristin LaMotte, (husband Matt) and her family! They are from Pensacola, Florida!

How did your family find Houston Haven?  

I was lucky enough to stumble upon Houston Haven while researching places to stay while I received treatment at MD Anderson in Houston. We knew we would need to move to Houston over the summer while I did radiation treatments and would be there a minimum of two months. Everywhere we looked was going to be over $10,000 and it financially did not make sense for our family at that time. Once we found Houston Haven, the stress of having a safe place that we could stay as a family while I received treatment was a ton of weight off of our shoulders

How were you blessed by Houston Haven when you stayed in Houston?

Because we traveled from across the country with our two boys, my husband and I tried to treat our time in Houston as an adventure for our family. Having the volunteers to bring dinners by a few times a week or provide cool opportunities for our boys while we were there took so much stress off of my husband and myself. The hospitality showed our family really made an otherwise scary situation into something that was comforting and allowed me to focus on getting better without worry  
 
 
What would you tell someone that might be interested in getting involved with Houston Haven?

Involving yourself in Houston Haven is a win-win situation for all! Not only are you providing service and fellowship to people who really need it, even the smallest gestures that you can do for people who are facing treatment, allows them to focus on really healing. That is a true blessing!

🎉🎉🎉MEET US MONDAY🎉🎉🎉 Today we wanted to let you get to know Drew and Lauren Casey who are on the Meal Team and great volunteers at Marilyn’s house in the Willowbend area. We are so blessed to have so many volunteers that live right around Marilyn’s house!
They are a great example of serving as a family in the mission of being the hands and feet of Jesus to Houston Haven guests.

What motivated you to get involved in Houston Haven?

Both being from Houston, it was easy to take for granted the incredible access to healthcare we had in the Texas Medical Center down the street. Houston Haven gives patients and their families who are seeking treatment at MD Anderson a home base in the midst of a challenging season in their lives. We wanted to take the opportunity to be even a small part of that process in bringing comfort to those in the midst of some really hard trials.

How have you been blessed by being involved providing meals and other volunteer stuff?

There are many ways, but one particular thing for us has been involving our two young daughters. Whether bringing them along in delivering meals or including our oldest in a service day at a Houston Haven home, this has been a great way to teach them by our actions that we don’t just live for ourselves, but to serve others.

What would you tell someone that might be interested in getting involved?

Do it! For a small investment of your time, energy, and prayer, you can be a very tangible blessing to someone who is in need of support.

Church Partnerships are a huge part of what keeps Houston Haven running smoothly! We just had two great workdays with in February doing a lot of outdoor landscaping! It was great meeting a lot of new people, doing some great work, and telling people the story of Houston Haven and how they can get further involved!
