📣 We’re Hiring: Peer Support Specialists | Texas

Camp SHiEld - After Military Service is growing our team! We’re hiring two part-time Peer Support Specialists to help Women Veterans build connection, strengthen wellness, and navigate life after military service through meaningful peer support.

We’re looking for compassionate, dependable professionals across Texas who can create welcoming spaces where Women Veterans feel seen, supported, and connected.

Position highlights:
• Part-time | 25 hours/week
• $20/hour
• Primarily virtual | Occasional in-person retreats & program events
• MHPS Certification or LMHP credential required
• Texas-based applicants, with preference for the Houston and San Antonio areas
• Women Veterans preferred — this peer-centered role values both professional credentials and the lived experience of military service, transition, and life after service
• 100% grant-funded through an awarded Texas Veterans Commission Mental Health Grant supporting non-clinical mental health programming

This role will help expand non-clinical mental health support, peer connection, and wellness programming for Women Veterans across Texas.

This special evening honored service—and the families who serve right alongside them—while bringing the spirit of Camp SHiEld to life through community and shared impact.

There are moments that remind us just how powerful a community can be. This past weekend was one of those moments.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of Houston Diesels and everyone who supported this year's Beach Bash fundraiser, Camp SHiEld has received an amazing $60,334.50 donation!

While the dollar amount is easy to see in numbers - what we see are the lives that will be impacted.

We see:

💙 A Woman Veteran walking into a retreat for the first time, unsure of what to expect, and leaving with a renewed sense of hope and a community that understands her.
💙 Meaningful conversations that remind someone they are not alone.
💙 Children laughing, families reconnecting, and Veterans discovering that healing doesn't have to happen in isolation.

Today was a meaningful day for Camp SHiEld - After Military Service as we welcomed AmeriCorps Chief of Staff Mark Lloyd, VISTA Director Brendan Murphy, and Jaclyn Kolar of OneStar for a special site visit.

Our team had the opportunity to share our mission, the work happening across our organization, and the important role AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteers and Summer VISTA Volunteers play in helping us grow our impact.

Through their service, our VISTA team members are strengthening internal systems, expanding program capacity, supporting organizational development, and helping us build a stronger foundation for the future. Their work behind the scenes allows Camp SHiEld to reach more Veterans and military families, strengthen our programs, and create lasting change that extends well beyond a single year of service.

We were also proud to hear directly from our VISTA Volunteers as they shared their experiences, accomplishments, and the meaningful projects they are leading throughout their service terms.

Thank you, Mark, Brendan, and Jaclyn, for spending time with our team, learning more about our work, and recognizing the dedication of our AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteers. We are grateful for the partnership, support, and shared commitment to service that makes this work possible.
