D.O.V.E. for Girls
OVERVIEW Introducing a development/intervention program for at-risk girls, established 2005 in Oakland, CA
MISSION: Overcome challenges, meet goals and achieve success for at-risk girls in middle school.
VISION: Young girls can be empowered through gaining knowledge and insight from mentors so they may find and use their voices to make powerful, productive choices.
The program is meant to be a game-changer for girls who may have some difficulties or challenges in various areas of their lives, which impact their attendance and performance in school.
GOALS
1. Improve Grade Point Average
2. Improve Attendance
3. Reduce Truancy
4. Improve Conduct Reports
SPECIFICATIONS
Licensed and/or trained mentors will help promote positive development based on the principles of the 7 dimensions of wellness from an inward/outward perspective - learning about self and one’s influence on relationships, community and global citizenship.
D.O.V.E. for Girls will be a safe place to develop personal growth and sisterhood during a challenging developmental stage of life.
Primarily, D.O.V.E. for Girls is designed with at-risk students in mind, however, honor roll and highly successful students are encouraged to participate as peer mentors.
MILESTONES
Reading Re-building Project - A significant component of the program is helping improve literacy and confidence for stronger academic achievement.
Ladies of Distinction - Upon successful completion of the program, participants are honored with recognition and given the title: “Lady of Distinction” or LD, which acknowledges that she has worked diligently with our support to make a meaningful transition.
