Houston Women March On

Houston Women March On The Women's March of Houston is an independent nonpartisan 501c3 nonprofit that mobilizes and equips women to act for themselves and their communities.

WHAT: The Houston Women’s March will bring together women and allies for a peaceful protest on Saturday, October 2, 2021. Participants will gather at Discovery Green and then march to Houston City Hall beginning at 9 a.m. The event will also include voter registration stations, speakers, and musical performances. Details will be announced soon. WHEN: Saturday, October 2, 2021, at 9 a.m. Participan

ts will begin gathering at Discovery Green at 7 a.m. WHERE: START: Discovery Green (1500 McKinney St., Houston, TX 77010)

END: Houston City Hall (901 Bagby St., Houston, TX 77002)

The Houston Women’s March will serve as a peaceful protest of dire current events in Texas, including Senate Bill 8, which is tantamount to an unconstitutional ban on abortion; recently passed voter suppression laws; redistricting measures; discriminatory proposals harming the trans community; the inhumane treatment of immigrants along the border and throughout the state; attacks on Asian Americans; and so much more. Voter stations will be set up to encourage registration, inclusion, and participation in the election process.

“Women’s bodily autonomy is crucial, but it isn’t the only issue that demands our attention in Texas right now. Over the last year, many of the causes we care deeply about have come under attack, from access to voting and fair representation to unchecked aggressions hurting our most vulnerable populations,” said Robin Paoli, Board Chair of Houston Women March On. “There has never been a more important time to come together and act.”

The walk to Houston City Hall from Discovery Green is approximately 0.8 miles long. Masking, social distancing, and other safety measures will be encouraged. A nonpartisan 501(c)(3) run entirely by volunteers, Houston Women March On is an inclusive, diverse coalition united against all forms of discrimination. Women’s marches will occur in cities throughout the United States on October 2. About Houston Women’s March On

Mark your calendars: Early voting for the March primary starts on Tuesday. I found www.bluevoterguide.org to be helpful; it lists who has endorsed each of the democratic candidates. Voters may also find the nonpartisan League of Women Voters guide to be helpful at Vote411.org. In any case the ballot is long (mine is seven pages), so you’ll want to do your homework in advance. Harris County residents can pull up their sample ballot at Harrisvotes.com.

Hey Texas,
Early voting starts on Monday. Show up and vote; let’s break records and show that we care about public education, gun safety, women, healthcare and so many other issues that are dear to our hearts. Marching only matters if it headed to the polls! Harris County voters can find voting hours, locations, and their sample ballots at www.harrisvotes.com

ATT: Parents of TX College Students (and others in Harris County: PLEASE check your VOTER REGISTRATION STATUS).

With November and related deadlines fast approaching, it’s not too soon to think about elections. You have a choice to register and vote where you attend school or in your home community (parents/residence address). As local elections typically impact our daily life the most, I hope you consider voting here in Houston.

Are you registered to vote? Harris County residents can confirm their registration at: https://www.hctax.net/Voter/Search or anyone in Texas can check here: https://teamrv-mvp.sos.texas.gov/MVP/mvp.do

Need to register, but you don’t have stamps, a printer and an envelope handy? Fill out a request at https://www.register2vote.org/ and they will mail you a completed voter registration form with a stamped envelope to drop in the mail. The deadline to have your Voter Registration RECEIVED is October 7th.

Are you attending school outside of Harris County or will you otherwise be outside the county for all of early voting and on Election Day? If so, you are eligible to apply to Vote by Mail. You can request and application here (do this ASAP): https://www.harrisvotes.com/Voter/Vote-by-Mail . The last day to request a ballot by mail is 10/25 (the application must be received by this date, so please allow several additional days to offset slow mail delivery).
