Our Story
The concept of this foundation was derived to honor the works of three women dear to my heart. They were pillars of their communities and gave unselfishly of themselves to aide others simply because of who they were. They were affectionately called, “Mom, Mo-Mo, and Madear.
With the aide of family, friends, the church, its members and other organizations they met the needs of countless people. They were known for their calming spirit spoken through their kind words, generosity and smile. On an ongoing basis, they could be seen spearheading multiple tasks such as: food pantries, clothing drives, holding health fairs, facilitating fundraisers for community outreach programs for back-to-school and visiting community skilled nursing facilities to simply talk and pray with residents. They truly exemplified and embodied what community service is and should be. What I remember most they never called what they did Charity; they called it “Helping”, helping those less fortunate than I. They instilled in me three things (1) The Fear of God, (2) Love for Family and (3) A Giving Heart.
I always thought of myself as a philanthropist, donating monetarily to charitable organizations and yet I yearned to do more. When my mother became ill, I wanted to honor her by carrying the torch she had to lay down and continue her good work. But that’s when I realized, the foundation for what I yearned to do had not only been laid down by my mother but by my two grandmothers as well and all I had to do was build on their good works. My daughter Kennedy and I decided we would embark on this journey together as Founder and Co-Founder of M.A.S. Community Helping Hands Foundation. Our humble beginning started with a community-skilled nursing facility, where we gifted underprivileged and underserved residents during the Christmas holiday In Honor of my mother and In Memory of my grandmothers. Now it’s In Memory of all three thus, the onset of M.A.S. Community Helping Hands Foundation.
