Lola's Lucky Day Rescuing homeless dogs in Houston & Dallas TX & networking with rescues in Wisconsin to find them loving homes where they are wanted once healthy.

The idea of Lola's Lucky Day all began on December 24th, 2013. Larissa Gavin, her twin sister Natalie and her dad went on a tour of a bad part of Houston known for dumping dogs. That day changed her life and she decided to do anything within her power to make a positive change. They saw so many sweet, loving homeless dogs wandering the street who were so thankful for kind human interaction and a fresh bowl of food and water. It literally felt like a different country, not a place located 10 minutes from downtown Houston. Her dad mentioned that the local shelter in their hometown in Wisconsin didn't have that many dogs. With that in mind, she started reaching out to her friends and Wisconsin rescues to see if they could help place dogs into good homes if she was able to get them vetted and healthy first. Fast forward and now over 7,500 once homeless pups saved; Lola's Lucky Day is becoming a reality. Named after one of the first puppies that Larissa had rescued and the premise that it is truly each dog's "Lucky Day" when they are taken off the streets to begin their new life.

Cleo has her bags packed and is ready to head to MA to find her forever home!

But she needs your help! Her transport fee to get her safely to our rescue partner is $270 and that doesn’t include the health certificate needed prior and the grooming she will be receiving to make sure she looks perfect for arrival.

Cleo’s story started off sad - found stray with what looked like chemical burns and open wounds all down her back. She was nursed back to health by her foster over months and look at her gorgeous fur now! Dogs with medical issues don’t always get a second chance - Cleo is a lucky one!

A LINE. Waiting for our Texas dogs.

This is what opportunity looks like.

Our dogs arrived in Wisconsin on Sunday, and today there is already a line of people waiting for adoptions to open.

One adopter even drove to Dodge last night, rented a hotel room, and made sure they would be first in line to meet Bluebell this morning.

Just let that sink in.

These are dogs who were overlooked, abandoned, or simply didn’t have enough people looking for them back home in Texas. But give them a little distance, and suddenly there are families waiting for the chance to take them home.

That is why we transport.

It’s not that Texas dogs aren’t wonderful. They are. It’s that there are more dogs than homes, and sometimes finding the right home means giving them the opportunity to be seen somewhere else.

Wisconsin keeps showing our Texas dogs that there are people out there looking for exactly what they have to offer.

And today, they’re not waiting for someone to notice them.

They’re standing in line.

This weekend we transported 22 dogs to our pals at New Beginnings Shih Tzu Rescue, Paddy's Paws and Dodge County Humane Society. These lucky pups were excited to leave the Texas heat and on to their new lives

We would love to raise $320 to help offset our gasoline expense. The price of gas has gone up and really put a strain on our operating costs.

Meet Max. He's a 10-year-old, 10-pound Chihuahua mix who came into Lola's Lucky Day Rescue with a mouth that had been hurting him for years and no one to speak up for him.
When we finally got him into surgery, the damage was worse than we feared: 17 teeth had to be extracted, and 20 more were already missing and some worn away, one that had simply fallen out from decay, and retained roots still buried in his jaw. This wasn't a cosmetic cleaning. This was a senior dog who had been living in pain, quietly, the way so many of them do.

Dental care doesn't get the same urgency as an ER visit or a broken leg, but for a dog like Max, it is an emergency and it's just one that's easy to overlook because he never told anyone how much it hurt.

Max's procedure came to $868.75. He's healing well and finally eating without wincing but that bill came straight out of the fund we rely on for the next dog that needs our help.
