It was a great day of service at our Food Fair this past weekend! With the support of our dedicated volunteers, service clubs, board members, and several new helping hands, including Kiesha from Molina Healthcare and her crew, we were able to serve over 170 households on Saturday in record time.

We are grateful for every person who showed up to make this work possible and help meet the needs of our community.

Make plans to serve with us next month at our next Food Fair on Saturday, June 20. We would love to see you there!

At MESA-OUTREACH, INC., volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. With only three part-time staff members, serving our community would not be possible without the dedication of our team of volunteers. From assisting with daily operations and food distributions to processing donations, picking up groceries from local retailers, helping with client registration, and supporting special events, volunteers play a vital role in helping MESA tackle food insecurity in our community.

In 2025, MESA volunteers contributed an incredible 10,018 hours of service, representing more than $350,500 in value to our mission. This reflects the even greater impact our community is making together.

Many of our volunteers are familiar faces you may see again and again. You may know them by name or simply recognize their smile when you arrive to serve, but their dedication is what keeps MESA-OUTREACH, INC. moving forward. We are also deeply grateful for the many partners who consistently support this work, including local churches, businesses, service groups, and student volunteers.

We are proud to announce this year’s MESA Scholarship recipient, Yaseen Moustafa of Bridgeland High School!

Yaseen has demonstrated outstanding dedication both academically and through his service with MESA, consistently showing leadership, reliability, and a strong commitment to his community.

We had the honor of presenting this scholarship at his school's recent awards ceremony, made possible in part thanks to our wonderful Board Representative, Michael TonNu, whose support and presence helped make the moment even more meaningful.

Yaseen plans to begin his post-secondary journey at Lone Star College, with the goal of transferring to the University of Houston to pursue a degree in Accounting. We are excited to see all that he will accomplish as he continues his education and works toward his future goals.

We’re grateful to Cy-Fair Independent School District for helping strengthen food access in our community.

This generous contribution will go directly toward supporting neighbors and families facing food insecurity across Northwest Harris County. It took two trucks and many helping hands to bring everything in, and we appreciate everyone who made it possible.

Partnerships like this help ensure our neighbors continue to receive the support they need. We look forward to continuing this meaningful partnership.

🍎 Senior Apple Box Day – Wednesday, May 13 🍎

Our next Senior Apple Box distribution will take place Wednesday, May 13 from 1:00–2:30 PM.

We understand this is a change in time, but this was the only distribution date available to us. Thank you for your understanding.

Important reminders:
• You must be a current Houston Food Bank Senior Apple Box recipient in good standing to receive food.
• This is not a MESA program — we are simply serving as a host distribution site.
• Please bring your ID or Apple Card when picking up your box.

Can’t make it to the distribution?
A family member or friend can pick up your Senior Box for you by following these steps:

1️⃣ Write a letter giving them permission to pick up your box and include the time frame they are allowed to do so (example: today only or ongoing).
2️⃣ Sign and date the letter.
3️⃣ Send the designated person with:
• The permission letter
• A copy or photo of your ID or your Apple/Food Bank card
• Their own ID for verification.
