Lift Memorial serves the students, teachers, and administration of our public school, Memorial Elementary of the Houston Independent School District in Texas. We serve Memorial Elementary in a number of ways. The primary purpose of Lift Memorial is to bring the resources of our local community to bear fruit for our neighborhood school. We have defined goals that help guide our efforts. Academic Su
ccess of our Students. At Lift Memorial we have supported the academic success of our students through a number of programs. One that serves multiple purposes is enriching education through our outdoor classroom and community garden where students can learn about nature and nutrition first hand. Also, we have invested heavily into technology alongside the school, ensure each student has access to a device to personalize instruction. Lastly, Memorial Elementary has embarked on the path towards the Primary Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate. Lift Memorial helps pay the costs and shows appreciation for our teachers who invest in themselves to advance this curriculum. We are also helping coordinate the renovation of the school library. Social and Emotional Student Health
At Lift Memorial we believe in educating the whole student. Academics is the core focus of any school, but we seek to bring a well-rounded experience to every student. We accomplish this by sponsoring a student mentoring program. We also have volunteers who bring a comfort dog to visit the students on a regular basis. We invest in the arts for our students by coordinating community artists to bring their art into the school and campus. We support the school’s music program directly with equipment. Sometimes it’s the smaller touches, with helping Santa stuff stockings during the holidays for our classrooms. Teacher Appreciation
No student can succeed without their teacher. It is important for us to show our teachers our appreciation. We accomplish this by bringing in lunch from local restaurants regularly. We coordinate a refreshment cart to meet our teachers in the classroom with coffee, soda, or snacks to show them we care. We buy classroom materials and equipment for our teachers. The list goes on. Community Engagement Opportunities
People succeed when they know you are cheering for them. We live in a wonderfully giving community, and we want to bring that community into the school. We have volunteers with giving hearts, and donors who want to invest in our students, teachers, and local families. We want to create opportunities for others to show that care so our students and teachers can see it firsthand and bring those talents and resources into our neighborhood school. When the community gets engaged, we build stronger bonds, tighter families, and more resilient communities. Increase Zoned Enrollment
Memorial Elementary has modest enrollment for the neighborhood it which is zoned. Many families send their children to other schools. That is ok. We want every family to what is best for their kid. However, we want Memorial Elementary to be that best selection for all families. When you enroll your student in the neighborhood school, you spend less time travelling across town to school, and more time learning, playing, or growing as a family. Also, as our students grow, many of them will stay with their classmates as they progress into middle school and high school. That is not always the case in other public-school programs. Memorial Elementary is a beautiful building located next to Memorial Park and has many opportunities to offer our neighborhood families. We want to bring those opportunities to as many students as possible.
