ADULT LITERACY GRADUATION RWANDA

Psalm 119:105 — “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

We have never experienced a literacy graduation quite like this one in Rwanda. The celebration was overflowing with joy from beginning to end. The 25 graduates danced, presented Pacifique, Leah and Nepo (the teacher)with gifts shared a beautiful meal together, and testified to all they had learned.

The atmosphere in the room is difficult to capture in words. Twenty-five students began this class unable to read, write, or even use their cell phones. After just eight months, they can now do all of that—and more. The local government was so impressed that they administered their own assessment, and every student passed with 75% or higher.

After graduation, we are encouraged that the graduates are committed to continue growing. They plan to meet twice a month for Bible study, to strengthen their co-op—an initiative that recently led them to purchase a pig together and to practice their literacy skills
This graduation was more than a ceremony; it was a celebration of dignity restored, hope renewed, and lives illuminated by God’s Word.

Samuel shared a beautiful reflection we had to share:
“After being trained in 2021 as literacy teacher, there are 4 Teacher Training Workshops (TTW) which has took place in the DRC and 13 communities reached out by the Literacy classes. God still showing himself by exalting the those who were rejected.

Global Mission Church (GMC) in Kimihurura is one of Kairos Africa’s partners for adult literacy classes. GMC vision is “to become a church that builds its members on a solid foundation of the word of God and empowers them, for global mission”. Adult literacy classes pairs perfectly with this vision and we are thankful for their partnership. Students arrive not being able to recognize an alphabet letter and in less than one year they are able to read their Bibles, respond to text message and have expanded their world in ways they did not think was possible for them.
This last Sunday, David, Pacifique and Leah (as well as Julia) attended a beautiful graduation.

Seeing the joy of the students publicly stand up in front of strangers, friends, their pastor and teachers to read their Bible is always inspiring and a honor to witness. One student said “I may not be an expert reader, but I can text messages/respond to messages, my Bible and read street signs”

Although Kairos Africa have graduated many Adult Literacy classes in the last 4 years, we never get tired of the testimonies the transformational life stories of learning how to read.

Thankful for the teachers who are faithful to the class and loving each student. We are also thankful for Pastor Christine who faithfully encourages, gives classroom space and support the adult literacy classes.

//Day 1: Kairos Africa’s 7 Days of Thanksgiving//

We currently have adult literacy classes in Rwanda (3) and the Democratic Republic of Congo (5).

One of our BIGGEST joys/honors throughout the year is attending as many Adult Literacy graduations as possible. Students give powerful testimonies of how their lives are forever changed in ways that literate people take for granted every single day. We have seen salvations, baptisms, communities created and powerful bridges to the gospel.

We are thankful for our literacy teachers. They’re dedicated multiple times per week to go and teach literacy in their heart language (rain or shine). Teachers not only teach how to read/write, they also pray, love and share Jesus authentically.
We give God the glory for each graduate, student and teacher. We are thankful that the Lord is already expanding literacy classes next year. Thank you God for providing for each literacy class.

Testimony:
Icyitegetse Fillete testified that she came without even knowing how to write a vowel or read a letter. BUT NOW SHE CAN read! She can now read sign posts and can write for herself. She says the best thing is that she can experience God through reading the Bible. She praises God for the new opportunities in her life because she can read.

TOMORROW STARTS the Kairos Africa's 7 Days of Thanksgiving!!

We want to take a pause and reflect on the goodness of the Lord. Truly, there is so much to be thankful for. We are moved to tears reflecting all the Lord has done through our missionaries, partners and rope-holders. Our Prayer for the next seven days is to worship the Lord and give Him glory. Let's stand together in Thanksgiving as we give you a small glimpse of what the Lord has done.

How are we only going to pick 7 things? 🤣

Two Perspectives Rwanda National Team/Instructors, Josephine and Pacifique are heading Cameroon for a historical moment: “The Launch of the French Perspectives course in Francophone Africa”.

We are excited for what this means for the mobilization of the church in Africa. Pray for the awakening of the French speaking African churches to cowork with God in His mission.
