NAMC is a Houston-based non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization with a mission of building a unified, vibrant, and empowered community of Nigerians and Americans that promotes excellence in career and business; expands horizons through education, mentorship, and civic engagement; and shares the richness of Nigerian and African arts and culture. NAMC focuses on four core areas: professional development,
mentorship, cultural enrichment, and community development. Our major annual programs are:
Career Discovery for High School Students: This event exposes students to a wide range of careers that can be pursued in college and helps foster mentoring relationships between high school students and young professionals who can relate to the developmental struggles of the students. College Readiness for High School Students: This workshop was anchored by Admissions Officers from the flagship Texas universities, among others. The students that attended this workshop were provided with tips on the college admission process and college preparatory information. Executive Roundtables: NAMC pairs groups of Young African Professionals with Senior African industry executives to learn how these successful executives were able to reach the top of their careers. Each session is targeted a specific industry and provided a great professional development opportunity. We have hosted Executive Roundtables focused on Energy, Medicine, and Entrepreneurship. Houston AfriFEST is a family-friendly, open-air, community event hosted by NAMC along with other partnering African organizations. The event features dozens of booths, food, music, and activities, creating an enticing blend of art, culture, music, and dance and an opportunity for attendees to “Experience Africa.”
