For many children, attending a professional football game is just a dream. Thanks to Texas TicKids, youth served by Caring Heart Residential Care Services got to experience the excitement of a Houston Texans game firsthand!

"Most of the youth we serve have never been out of their neighborhood while growing up let alone a professional game. So opportunities like this remain a first for most, and a memory they will cherish the rest of their lives.

Sometimes, opening a door means giving a family a chance to simply feel like a family again.

Last summer, the Lara family—guests of our partner organization, Ronald McDonald House Charities Houston—had the opportunity to attend the Concacaf Gold Cup together. For nearly three years, this family has been away from their home, their support system, and their “normal” everyday life while their daughter receives cancer treatment. Ronald McDonald House

They’re from a small town, where an event like this simply isn’t available—and certainly isn’t something their family could easily afford. And mom, dad, brother and sister all got to experience the game together.

Mom shared that they were seated between passionate fans from both teams, which made the atmosphere even more fun since they didn’t have a preferred team. The girls enjoyed the experience, while the boys—especially the family’s soccer-loving tween—had an absolute blast.

And sometimes, that’s what matters most. A new experience. A shared memory. A few hours where a family can cheer, laugh and enjoy being together.
