I want to give everyone a quick update on the landscaped area at the corner of Winding Spring and Wellborn drive.

Several months ago Keep Weston Lakes Beautiful approached the POA and requested permission to try a different approach to landscaping this area.
With POA approval and funding, KWLB had all of the old planting removed. We purchased those two beautiful rocks and began the process of converting the plantings to Texas Native plants and grasses.
If you drive by that area today you can tell that some of those plants have not fared well. The grasses are growing like crazy and the Texas Sage is doing great. Some of the other plants are still surviving but not thriving yet. The deer got to the blue flower grass and some of our neighbors have a hard time making the turn onto Wellborn and ran over some of the plants.
KWLB will be replanting the dead plants with new native species as soon as the weather permits. We will be reworking the mulch as soon as my back permits and this incessant heat breaks just a little bit.
In the meantime please stop by the area and admire the rocks and grasses and the plants that are struggling to make it.

One of our KWLB partners, Wild Birds Unlimited, presented a great conservation documentary, “Purple Haze” this week. Their store was packed at the day’s end with Purple Martin landlords, lovers, and the curious. Familiar KWLB faces appeared to have a great time and learned a lot, as they posed with WBU owners Rich and Robbie 😁😁😁.

A beautifully disguised “murderer” of our native coastal prairie landscape.

This invasive tree has spread across Texas landscapes with a speed and thoroughness that should be alarming, but because the damage happens gradually and silently, most people simply don’t notice until the native plants they grew up around are just gone.
