Wreaths Across America-Houston Project

Wreaths Across America-Houston Project Our Mission: REMEMBER the fallen. HONOR those that serve and their families. TEACH our children the value of freedom. Welcome to Wreaths Across America – Houston

The Wreaths Across America story began over 15 years ago when Worcester Wreath Company (a for-profit commercial business from Harrington, Maine) began a tradition of placing wreaths on the headstones of our Nation's fallen heroes at Arlington National Cemetery. Over that period of time, Worcester Wreath has donated 75,000 wreaths which were placed by volunteers in a wreath laying ceremony each December. In 2007 one of our team members wanted to attend the ceremony at the Houston National Cemetery with his son. This was the beginning of a goal for not only one boy and his dad, but also several volunteers. On this day father and son found out and realized the Houston National Cemetery does not receive the live wreaths for all burial sites. The National Cemetery does receive the seven large wreaths (each representing one of the branches of services and the MIA/POW’s) as all other National Cemeteries do. The ceremony is held to place the seven larger wreaths in the front of the National Cemetery. But what about each of the fallen soldier’s grave sites? There the challenge began for Houston to show the Nation how we honor our fallen soldiers, raise the funds, recruit volunteers and place a wreath on all 53,000+ grave sites at the Houston National Cemetery on December 13, 2008. Although we did not reach our big goal for all the sites at HNC in 2008, we were able to place almost 14,000 wreaths! A huge step for Houston as we honored our fallen heroes. In the following years we have only grown in numbers of volunteers, but in the numbers of wreaths layed. But we are far from our goal to lay a wreath on EVERY grave in HNC.

One act of service can inspire a movement.

For Karen and Morrill Worcester, a quiet act of remembrance grew into Wreaths Across America, bringing communities together to remember the fallen, honor those who serve and inspire the next generation.

This October, Points of Light is proud to honor Karen and Morrill at the 8th annual George H.W. Bush Points of Light Awards.

🇺🇸 Honor 250 Years of American Freedom. Remember Those Who Defended It. 🇺🇸

As we celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States, we also remember the brave men and women who answered the call to protect the freedoms we enjoy today.

This year, you can help ensure every veteran is honored by sponsoring a wreath through Wreaths Across America – Houston. For just $17, you can place a wreath on the grave of an American hero, ensuring their service and sacrifice are never forgotten.

Our nation's story has been written by generations of patriots. As America marks 250 years, let's come together to say, "We remember. We honor. We teach."

Sponsor a wreath today and be part of this meaningful tradition.

❤️ Every wreath makes a difference.
🤍 Every name deserves to be remembered.
