Supporting our Youth at the Fort Bend County Fair.

In 2003, the Fort Bend Buyers Group was created to raise community support for the hundreds of Fort Bend County students who participate by exhibiting FFA or 4-H livestock projects at the Fort Bend County Fair. These students are learning valuable life skills and responsibility through their projects.

Unfortunately, the cost of raising an animal has significantly increased, and sadly, the auction prices have not. In many cases, the students are not even recovering their initial investment.

Each year the Fort Bend Buyers Group raises funds to support these hard-working students at the Fort Bend County Fair, and we need your help this year. Our goal for the Premium Auction is to help hold the floor price which is the lowest price an animal could receive. This also raises the potential sale prices for the Freezer Sale.

The Fair is coming up quick. The Fort Bend Buyers Group would like to help students get the word out about their projects.

Students can send something for us to post something about their project with photos. For safety and security reasons, we can ONLY post for students with parent/guardian sending an email giving permission.

Please include a statement that you are parent or guardian and give permission for this to be posted to Facebook.

Many of you are aware of the passing of Don Smithers. Don was a part of the Fort Bend Buyers Group since its inception, and stepped up to be a part of the leadership of our Group. While we mourn his passing, we take comfort in knowing he is reunited with Merle, his beloved wife.

Don understood the importance of creating a group to support the students at the Fort Bend County Fair. Rest in Peace Don.

Join us as we celebrate National FFA Week. “Future Farmers of America” was founded by a group of young farmers in 1928. Their mission was to prepare future generations for the challenges of feeding a growing population. They taught us that agriculture is more than planting and harvesting – it’s a science, it’s a business and it’s an art.”

FFA is not just for students who want to be production farmers; FFA also welcomes members who aspire to careers as teachers, doctors, scientists, business owners and more. For this reason, the name of the organization was updated in 1988 after a vote of national convention delegates to reflect the growing diversity and new opportunities in the industry of agriculture.

The official name of the organization is the National FFA Organization. The letters “FFA” stand for Future Farmers of America. These letters are a part of our history and our heritage that will never change.

Thanks to the support of our 2025 members, we helped 59 students either with bidding their project up, purchasing their project or adding on -- and sometimes all 3!
