🚨 SNAP CHANGES STARTING SOON 🚨
A lot of folks are about to be hit with new rules for keeping their SNAP (food stamp) benefits, so here’s the simple version of what’s happening:
A law signed this summer now requires more adults to work, volunteer, or be in job training at least 80 hours a month to stay on SNAP long-term.
Here’s what’s changing ⬇️
• The work rule now applies up to age 64 (it used to stop at 54).
• Parents whose youngest child is 14 or older now have to meet the requirement.
• Exemptions that used to protect homeless individuals, veterans, and young adults aging out of foster care have been removed.
• States will have a harder time waiving these rules, even in places with few jobs.
The administration paused these requirements in November, but the 3-month limit for not meeting the work hours kicks back in starting in December.
👉 The Congressional Budget Office says this change will result in 2.4 million fewer people receiving SNAP each month over the next decade.
Sharing so people aren’t caught off guard. If this affects you or someone you know, don’t wait until the deadline.
