Many thanks to all who participated in our 4th Annual Petra Guillen Foundation BBQ fundraiser; it was a huge success!
We received many compliments about the tasty BBQ, smoked by William Garay with the Beer Cookers and the Backyard Cookers! Thank you for your professionalism and generosity! We are truly grateful to everyone for their dedication to ensuring we had a fun and successful event. Whether you bought a ticket, donated an item, baked/cooked, volunteered your time, or did all of the above, we are incredibly thankful. This event is not possible without your support! A huge shout-out to Mike Redditt with H-E-B for donating quarter legs and sodas, The Original Ninfa's- Navigation, Eric with Lenox BBQ, Christina Morales - Representative TX District 145, with the Morales Memorial Foundation, and York Construction for their monetary sponsorships. A special thank you to Manuela Guerrero for selling over 50 BBQ tickets and Sandra Chapa (daughter Jassandra, OLGS scholarship recipient) for selling 80 BBQ plates! In total, we sold approximately 565 BBQ plates, a new record high!

Hello Family and Friends,

Back in July of 2023, I was contacted by a group called “Senora Power Research Team” to see if I would be interested in being interviewed about the Petra Guillen Foundation and the Guillen Matriarch…Petra Guillen. The research team informed me that their project’s goal was: “(1) a website which features ‘senoras profiles’ including biographical as well as professional information focusing on their activism and community building, and (2) a podcast in which the Research Team provides context and background for each senora’s time period”. After careful consideration, I accepted their offer on the condition that I would be able to bring one or two others who could answer questions about Grandma Guillen more thoroughly.
On August 11, 2023, in a room at the Stanaker Neighborhood Library, my mother, Linda Kay Guillen Duron, and Aunt Lydia Fay Guillen Lopez met with the Senora Power Research Team for the interview. After the interview, we were informed that a lot of work involving the interview subject matter, editing, discussions and recordings still needed to be completed before the podcast would be released. After a lot of hard work by the Senora Power Research team, the podcast was released on March 3, 2025. From the beginning, I informed the Senora Power Research Team that the family would be very touched and grateful for including Petra Guillen’s life story in their project’s journey!
Sadly, my mother, Linda Kay Guillen Duron, passed away on May 5, 2024, and was not able to hear the completed podcast. However, she mentioned to me several times that she was very excited to be a part of this amazing project!

Hello Family and Friends,

Due to your unwavering support, the Petra Guillen Foundation’s 3rd Annual BBQ Fundraiser recently sponsored the changing of the stained glass covers in front of Our Lady of Guadalupe Houston Catholic Church. Creation Art Glass & Design, a company that has 42 years of experience in this line of work, has now completed this portion of the church. The old stained glass Lexan covers were replaced with clear laminated covers. During this tedious process, the wooden window frames were repaired, cleaned, and painted. The hand-painted stained-glass windows were cleaned and polished before being enclosed with the new glass cover. Many decades ago, when the church was first built, and for some time thereafter, these beautiful hand-painted stained-glass windows were seen and appreciated by generations of families. As decades passed, dirt buildup and the sunlight’s heat caused the original covers to turn yellow, which concealed the window’s images. As we continue to restore them, our community will once again, experience their beauty and inspiration. More information to come on possible sponsorship opportunities for the remaining windows.
