Mexico Medical Missions

Mexico Medical Missions MMM is about loving the Tarahumara Indians like God does, and serving them in every way we can. Please visit: www.mexicomedical.org for more info on our work.

MMM is a permanent, long-term mission. The hospital, its main facility, is in a remote area of Mexico in the state of Chihuahua. It is serving the Tarahumara Indians, and other indigenous groups, who live scattered throughout 200,000 square miles of intensely rugged wilderness. The hospital lies on the single road that leads to the heart of their territory. The closest other hospitals are more than an hour away by car in either direction on the only paved highway in the region.

Celebrating today, World Teacher's Day, by acknowledging our own team member, Lydia! Lydia Borman grew up with her family on the mission field in the jungles of Ecuador. She now follows her parents’ example and serves the Lord in missions. Lydia is a gifted teacher and has run our missionary kids' school since 2016. Thank you, Lydia and all the teachers, for everything you do daily to teach and sow into the next generation.

We love nurse volunteers! Have you ever considered volunteering? We recommend contacting an organization that works with us to match nurses to our mission- Samaritan's Purse and Christian Health Service Corp. It is in the best interest of our patients and the hospital to have longer-term commitments, and we have found this to be the best way to meet the need. Feel free to mention your interest in Mexico Medical Missions when contacting these organizations, but also be open to other opportunities to serve! You never know the opportunities until you ask.

Our patients are not just a number. We want to care for each of them with respect and dignity. Here, our surgical team takes a moment to pray for their patient before surgery. Even with a long line of patients during an eye clinic weekend, we are not too rushed to stop for prayer.

Last year, our team assisted with 44 births at our hospital. In addition, we have provided prenatal care and checks through our mobile clinics. This area of rural Mexico still has a much higher rate of infant mortality than the urban areas. Our hospital team and community education team are working hard to fight that statistic!

In healthcare, we often focus on the clinical. But for providers serving Indigenous rural populations, the most important tools aren't in a medical kit—they're empathy, respect, and a deep understanding of the communities we serve.

The history of healthcare for many Indigenous peoples is marked by mistrust due to generations of injustice. We must first build trust through dignity and respect before we can provide care and love.
