Captain’s Night Training 🚒🔥

Tuesday was a very busy Captain’s Night for the department!

All stations participated in training focused on several critical fireground operations, including primary search, pump operations, hose advancement, driver/operator development, and RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) familiarization.

Our engine and ladder crews not only worked on hose advancement and pump operations, but also provided valuable training to those who are stepping up and becoming our next generation of driver/operators.

After reviewing RIT operations and what the assignment entails on the fireground, crews transitioned into hands-on training in blacked-out conditions, practicing the skills needed to assist a firefighter in an emergency.

Training in different conditions helps our volunteers build the skills, confidence, and muscle memory needed to operate effectively when conditions are at their worst.

Great work by all of our crews putting in the time to train and stay prepared!

2026B Cadets – Training Begins! 🚒

Last night marked the first day of training for our newest Fire Training Academy class! The cadets began their journey by learning the history and proud tradition of our League City Volunteer Fire Department.

Over the next 20 weeks, these cadets will undergo rigorous training in fire behavior, suppression tactics, physical fitness, emergency operations, and much more. The academy combines classroom instruction with hands-on experience, preparing each cadet for the challenges of firefighting and the path toward state certification.

To our 2026B Cadets: stay focused, stay strong, work hard, and give it everything you’ve got. We’re proud to have you on this journey! 💪🚒

Every skill they learn is another step toward becoming certified volunteer firefighters and serving our community. Join us as we follow their progression over the next four months and watch them grow into League City’s Bravest. 🔥

🚒 After 32 Years, We Honor One of Our Greatest Heroes on His Retirement 🚒

Today, we celebrate and honor John Park as he begins his next chapter after an incredible 32 years of service to our department and community.

John joined the fire department in 1994 and was officially sworn in that fall. Over the years, he has given countless hours, countless lessons, and an immeasurable amount of dedication to the fire service.

As John said a few years ago:

“It has been a spectacular ride; one that has endured the depths of sadness that all first responders have to address, but also the joys that come with the successes and brotherhood with my fellow firefighters.”

From helping open Fire Station 4 in 1996, John has had the honor of serving in just about every role imaginable — Lieutenant, Captain, Safety Officer, Duty Officer, Special Operations/Hazmat Team member, and E-Board member.

His impact extends far beyond the fireground. John has taught 699 classes (Duty Officer), including radio communications and building construction, assisted with the building of Squad 4, and helped found the BASOC group, which played an important role in bringing safety standards and policies together throughout Galveston County.

For more than three decades, John has been a leader, mentor, teacher, firefighter, and friend. His knowledge and dedication have left a lasting mark on generations of firefighters who have had the privilege of working alongside him and learning from him.

And behind every great firefighter is a family who makes the sacrifices alongside them.

A very special THANK YOU goes to his wife, Caron, and their children, Taylor and Katie, for sharing John with our department and allowing him to dedicate 32 years to serving others. ❤️

John, thank you for your service, your leadership, your friendship, and your unwavering commitment to the fire service.

Congratulations on your retirement! You’ve earned it. 🚒🔥

Please welcome our newest black hat promotion to our team! What does a black hat mean?

Traditionally your probationary period is approximately one year after graduation and during that time you demonstrate your knowledge and commitment to work with those at your station. After that, your progression through the ranks in the fire service can be what you choose and continue working with those around you.

🚒 Joint Training with Webster Professional Firefighters Association!

Last week, several of our volunteers joined members of the Webster Professional Firefighters Association for hands-on training focused on ladder splicing, ladder scaling, and bridging.

These specialized techniques allow firefighters to extend their reach and create additional access points during emergency operations when standard aerial equipment may not be available or practical.

This involves connecting or overlapping two ground ladders—typically using a roof ladder hooked over a windowsill and an extension ladder positioned below—to create a longer, more versatile ladder system for rescue operations.

Training together with neighboring departments strengthens our skills, builds teamwork, and helps ensure we’re prepared to work seamlessly alongside our mutual-aid partners when it matters most.

Fire departments have many traditions, and one that has become a favorite local tradition for us is helping cool off our students after they spend time practicing in the Texas heat before the new school year begins! 🚒💦🎶

We were honored to help the Clear Falls High School Marching Band beat the heat and hope everyone had a great time.

Thursday evening, CityMark Church hosted their annual youth conference and invited our volunteers to “hose’em down!” 🚒💦

With hotter-than-normal temperatures, there was no better way to wrap up the evening than helping everyone cool off. It was a fun opportunity for our volunteers to connect with the community while bringing a little relief from the Texas heat.

Thank you, CityMark Church, for inviting us to be part of such a great event. We hope everyone had an amazing time and stayed cool! ☀️🚒
