The taro leaf tells the story of Rohingya statelessness.
Led by Doctors Without Borders (MSF) in collaboration with Rohingya artists through their Creative Advocacy Partnership, the Taro Leaf Campaign amplifies the voices of a community too often erased.
Inspired by a Rohingya proverb, “Hoñsú fathar fáa ní”, translated as “Not even water leaves a mark on a taro leaf,” the campaign reflects the reality of statelessness. Today, over 1.2 million Rohingya people remain in camps, facing dwindling humanitarian aid and uncertain futures following the targeted violence carried out by the Myanmar military in 2017.
Through art, Rohingya communities are reclaiming their narrative by centering the taro leaf as a symbol of solidarity.
