🇨🇩 DRC Holds 180 Million Barrels in Proven Oil Reserves, Report Says

The Democratic Republic of the Congo holds an estimated 180 million barrels of proven oil reserves, according to an energy country review by KeyFacts Energy.

The report says the country’s total petroleum potential could be much larger, with broader estimates exceeding 5 billion barrels across its major sedimentary basins.

Despite this resource base, Congolese oil production remains limited to the coastal basin, at about 25,000 barrels per day. The crude oil produced is exported.

The DRC also remains dependent on imported refined fuels because its only refinery in Muanda has not produced refined petroleum products since 1998.

The figures highlight a major economic opportunity for the country: developing local production and refining capacity could reduce fuel imports, create jobs and allow more value from the DRC’s resources to remain inside the country.
