We regret to inform everyone that someone left their Toast under a truck.

In today’s news, a small piece of Toast was discovered hiding underneath a truck in a Houston neighborhood.

A concerned citizen attempted to retrieve the Toast but was unfortunately running late for a flight. A second rescuer was dispatched to the scene and successfully secured the Toast.

Toast is now in the custody of Houston Rabbit Resource.

He is safe.
He is indoors.
He is no longer underneath any motor vehicles.

Further investigation into exactly who Toast is and what he thinks about all of this is ongoing.

Look out world Minnie might actually be a mini Lion 😅

Something mischievous arrived at the HRR Center today. 🖤🎃

And her name could not be more appropriate.

Minnie Mischief is three years old, tiny, adorable, and already keeping us on our toes. She’s been doing binkies, checking out her new surroundings, and generally looking like she’s plotting her next move at all times.

Minnie came to us today after we pulled her from another shelter that reached out for help. They had noticed some behaviors that told them Minnie needed more individualized behavioral support than they were able to provide, so they asked if we could step in.

And, of course, we said yes.

Right now, Minnie doesn’t particularly enjoy being touched or pet, and when she feels uncomfortable, she may lunge or nip to make her feelings VERY clear.

That doesn’t make her a bad bunny.

It means we have some listening to do.

We don’t know what Minnie may have experienced in her life that taught her she needs to communicate her boundaries so loudly. Maybe she’s learned that a quiet “no” isn’t always heard. Maybe she just has very strong opinions about her personal bubble. We don’t know yet, and we’re not going to make assumptions about her.

Instead, we’re going to let Minnie tell us.

We’re going to learn her likes and dislikes, figure out what makes her feel safe and comfortable, respect when she tells us “no,” and build trust at her pace.

Our hope is that, with time, Minnie learns that she doesn’t have to shout quite so loudly to be heard. Her boundaries will be respected, and she can feel safe knowing that the people around her are listening.

And honestly? We’re already getting little glimpses of the bunny underneath all that sass.

There have been binkies. There’s been curiosity. And there is a very cute, very tiny bunny who constantly looks like she is plotting her next move.

Also, Minnie was born October 30th, 2022.

So yes. She is quite literally a Halloween girlie. 🎃

She’s already spayed and is now on our Coming Soon page while we take the time to really get to know her and figure out what kind of home will be the right fit for our tiny agent of chaos.

For now, we’ll keep the treats coming, respect her personal bubble 🥰

Hi, friends! It's Leo! 🐰💙

I have a little announcement to make on behalf of all the bunnies here at Houston Rabbit Resource.

This Saturday, October 3, we'll be closing the Center an hour early at 3 PM, which means we'll have a limited number of Hare Salon appointments available.

We're closing early for a very special reason. We're celebrating our volunteers!

You see, we bunnies might be the reason everyone comes to the Center, but our volunteers are the reason it feels like home. They're the ones who make sure we have full bellies, clean spaces, plenty of attention, and someone looking out for us every single day.

The last couple of weeks haven't been easy for our rescue, and our volunteers have been there through it all. We want to take a little time to celebrate them and remind them just how loved and appreciated they are.

I can't exactly give them a hug, but I can offer a nose boop or two. I hear those are pretty valuable. 💙

Kent has officially left the Center for foster care, and we’re pretty sure his foster family has already figured out exactly what they signed up for. 😂

Their first report:

“Kent is a riot. His days are filled with zoomies and "romancing" the plushie!! I just cannot get enough of his ears…”

Yes. That sounds like Kent.

While he was at the HRR Center, this boy could jump out of a FOUR-FOOT pen. And it did not matter if he had been out for recess for an hour or basically the entire day. The second he went back into his pen, he acted like he had never experienced freedom once in his entire life.

Kent is adventurous, energetic, ridiculously entertaining, and, somehow, has some of the BEST litter box skills despite not being neutered yet. We think he has figured out that good behavior = more free-roam time, and he is eager to work the system. 😂

We knew this little chaos bun needed a foster home that could give him more room to explore and appreciate his very big personality, and it sounds like he found exactly that.

Kent isn't available for adoption just yet. He still needs to be neutered and finish up everything he needs before he's officially ready, but you can already find him on our Coming Soon page and submit an application if you think your home could handle the zoomies, the ears, and whatever other nonsense Kent decides to come up with next.

Ruby tried dating. She's decided the single life might be more her speed. 😎

After speed dating, a sleepover, and even some extra help with bonding, Ruby and her potential bunny partner seemed to agree they were better suited as roommates.

The humans, though? Ruby LOVED them.

Once she was comfortable, she was jumping onto their bed, following them around, and soaking up all the attention she could get.

And that actually makes a lot of sense for Ruby. She was previously adopted as a single bun and absolutely adored by her family before being returned through no fault of her own. She's used to being someone's one-and-only, and she seems pretty happy that way.

So if you've been looking for just one bunny to spoil, Ruby would like to submit her application. Sunglasses included. 😎

: College Edition 🎓

Remember Dexter? Well, our boy is officially a college student now!

Dexter packed his bags (okay, his mom probably did that part) and headed off to College Station, where he and his mom are learning the ropes of life at Texas A&M Texas A&M University together.

His current course load appears to include Advanced Flopping, Professional Napping, Hay Consumption 101, and Supervising Your Mom While She Actually Studies.

While his mom is hitting the books, Dexter has been very busy providing moral support from the floor, the couch, or wherever he happens to be dramatically flopped at the time. Based on the photos we've received, we're not entirely convinced he's attended a single lecture.

He is, however, VERY spoiled, very loved, and clearly thriving in his new life as a college boy. And that's exactly the kind of update we love getting.

Study hard, Dexter. We're expecting straight A's. (A's for Adorable count.)

There were seven little babies when we first introduced this crew, and before we give you an update on the remaining six, we need to share some sad news about our little Jelly Kid.

Despite more than a week of doing everything we could for him and getting him the best care possible, we believe Jelly Kid was struggling with congenital issues that his tiny body simply couldn't overcome.

He was one of a kind, and he was so very loved.

Our volunteers helped weigh him, monitor him, take pictures to track his progress, and make sure this tiny little guy had everything we could possibly give him. Unfortunately, his body eventually gave way, and we had to say goodbye.

We really wanted to watch Jelly Kid grow up, and we're going to miss him very much. ❤️

Thankfully, his six siblings are growing, exploring, causing trouble, and so far appear to be healthy little babies. We're continuing to keep a close eye on everyone as they grow.

And now, Houston, we have one small problem...

HOUSTON, WE NEED NAMES! 🐰

We love this city, and these little H-town Hoppers are growing up right here in Houston, so we think they deserve names inspired by the city they call home.

That's where you come in.

A little Bilbo update, because this guy has already come such a long way.

A few weeks ago, Bilbo came to us after what we suspect had been a pretty difficult life. We believe he and another rabbit were dumped outside together. Sadly, his companion was killed by a dog, and Bilbo was being circled by that same dog when a mom and daughter saw what was happening and stepped in before Bilbo became its next victim.

When he arrived, he was painfully thin, badly matted, and had very little fur on his hocks, which made us suspect he may have spent part of his life living on wire flooring.

Today, Bilbo is back to a healthy weight, looking so much better, and heading to his foster home.

But getting weight back on him is only part of his recovery.

Bilbo still struggles with food insecurity. For a bunny who likely spent a long time not knowing when his next meal would come, food is something you eat whenever you have the chance. If Bilbo had his way, he would happily help himself to an entire bag of pellets because somewhere in that little bunny brain, he is still learning that breakfast will come tomorrow. Dinner will come tonight. The hay isn't going anywhere. There will be another treat.

His foster will be helping him learn that through consistency, routine, and appropriately portioned meals so he can stay at a healthy weight while also learning that he never has to go hungry again.

Bilbo will be neutered in the coming weeks and is currently listed on our Coming Soon page. He isn't quite ready to go home yet, but you can still submit an adoption application if you think you might want to be part of the rest of his adventure.

For a bunny named Bilbo Baggins, he's already had more adventure than we would have liked. We're hoping this next chapter includes a comfortable foster home, predictable mealtimes, plenty of hay, and eventually a family of his own.

We'll share another update once he's had some time to settle into foster and show us even more of that sweet, friendly personality.

We found another Snoopy hiding in Snoopy this weekend. 😂

Sweet Snoopy came to us after she was found all alone in a home after her family moved out. A neighbor discovered her, and now she’s safe with us while we get her ready for adoption. She appears to be an older lady and has cataracts, but she’s been settling in wonderfully.

This weekend, one of our volunteers gave her a good grooming and somehow brushed out enough fur to make a whole second bunny!

Just your friendly reminder that even if your bun doesn’t LOOK like they’re shedding that much, regular brushing might prove otherwise. All that loose fur is much better on the brush than in their tummy.

Snoopy is still “coming soon,” but we can’t wait to tell you more about this sweet girl!
