Something hoppy is coming to the HRR Center! 🐰💛

We are so excited to share that we’ll be opening our very own Bunny Buttique, a little shop made just for bunny families and the people who love them.

Our goal is to create a one-stop shop for safe bunny supplies, toys, treats, stickers, cards, shirts for humans, and more! No more standing in the pet store aisle wondering if something is actually bunny-safe. No more researching every item just because it has a bunny on the label. We want this to be a place where you can shop with confidence, knowing every item was chosen with bunny health, happiness, and safety in mind.

Whether you’re picking out a birthday gift for your bun, a holiday surprise, a little enrichment treat, or something special for the bunny parent in your life. You can shop knowing your purchase helps rabbits in need right here in Houston. Every item you buy supports our rescue efforts and the care of the bunnies who depend on us, so there’s no guilt shopping here, just feel-good shopping that gives back.

: Nutmeg is home. 🧡

Last winter, Nutmeg was found in a ditch on a freezing cold day, sitting in cold water with nowhere warm to hide and no one by her side.

Her story could have ended there, but instead, it became the beginning of something so much better.

Nutmeg was brought into safety, wrapped in care, and given the chance every bunny deserves. She learned what it felt like to be warm, to be loved, and to have people rooting for her.

And now, Nutmeg has everything we could have hoped for her.

She has a family who loves her dearly, a cozy home to call her own, and a husbun to share her days with. She will never again have to sit alone in the cold wondering if anyone is coming. She will never have to search for shelter or wait for warmth.

Now her winter days will be spent snuggled beside her husbun, stretched out in comfort, and surrounded by the love she always deserved.

Happy forever, sweet Nutmeg. You are finally, completely home.

This is for Sage

Sage was first reported by a church-goer who saw a rabbit sitting alone in the rain, out in the open of a church parking lot.

When we arrived, it was clear she had been outside for a while. Her fur had been bleached by the sun, a quiet little sign that she had spent far too many days exposed to the weather, whether at that church or wherever she had been before.

But when we looked her over, Sage wasn’t sick. She wasn’t injured. She wasn’t frantically trying to escape.

She was just sitting there.

Waiting.

When the car pulled up, she became alert. But when our volunteer stepped out, her ears dropped. And instead of running, Sage let herself be picked up right away.

We can’t know for sure what was going through her little bunny mind, but it felt like she had been waiting for someone to come back for her.

No domestic rabbit should ever have to wait in the rain. Not in a parking lot. Not out in the open. Not somewhere surrounded by cars, predators, heat, illness, and fear.

Thankfully, Sage is safe now.

Now she is waiting for something much better. A forever home where she will be loved indoors, protected, and never left behind again.

Sage is ready for the next chapter she deserved from the very beginning.

What do most people do on a Sunday?
Sleep in, stay cozy, relax, maybe avoid lifting heavy things at all costs.

Not our volunteers 😁

Last weekend, as we get closer to opening the HRR Center, an incredible group of volunteers answered the call and spent their Sunday helping us move everything from our storage unit into the warehouse area of our new space.

They lifted. They drove. They organized. They consolidated. They built shelves. They helped set up our front desk. They sorted supplies, categorized merch, broke down boxes, and helped turn a very overwhelming pile of “where do we even start?” into something that actually feels like a center getting ready to open.

We will never stop being grateful for the people who show up for bunnies. This space is only possible because of the volunteers, donors, fosters, and supporters who believe Houston’s bunnies deserve more resources, more education, more access to care, and a place built with them in mind.

Because of you, we are one step closer to opening the doors to Houston’s first rabbit resource center.

And we are going to need even more helping hands soon! Once the HRR Center opens, we’ll need volunteers to help clean xpens, run the Bunny Buttique, support the Hare Salon, help with events and workshops, assist with adoption days, organize supplies, and so much more.

Did we mention that a huge thank you is in order?

We are so grateful to Sherwin-Williams on 21910 West Rd, Cypress, TX 77433 and their manager, Jessica Hilligiest
, for their incredibly generous donation of paint to help us bring the HRR Center to life.

Their kindness is now part of the walls of this space, and that feels pretty special. They even created a custom color just for us and named it Minty Bunny Tails, which might be the most HRR thing to ever happen.

The HRR Center is coming together because of people and businesses who believe in this work and want to be part of building something better for Houston’s bunnies. Every donated supply, every helping hand, and every thoughtful detail is helping turn this space into a welcoming place for bunny parents, future adopters, volunteers, and, of course, the buns.

We cannot wait for you to see it all up close. In the meantime, please help us show some love to the businesses helping make the HRR Center possible.

Four years ago, Ruby was born in our care to Gertrude, a mama bunny we took in just in time. Gertrude had already been caring for six babies when we learned she was also pregnant with eight more. One of those tiny babies was Ruby.

Like her siblings, Ruby grew up, found a family, and went home to be loved. And for four years, she was. Ruby lived the life every bunny deserves, where every mischievous little plot was met with “awww” and “how cute,” because in her family’s eyes, she could do no wrong.

But sometimes life changes in ways no one expects.

When Ruby’s elderly grandma came to live with the family, they discovered she was allergic to rabbits. For years, they tried to manage the allergies and make it work, but despite their efforts, it began affecting her health. So, with very heavy hearts, Ruby’s family reached back out to us, hoping we could help her find a new home that will love and spoil her just as much as they did.

Ruby is not back with us because she did anything wrong. She is back because her family loved her enough to make a hard decision with her future in mind.

Now Ruby is looking for someone who will see her for exactly who she is: a sweet, silly, loved bunny who is ready to be adored all over again.

Help us build the HRR Center calendar! 🐰✨

As we get closer to opening the Houston Rabbit Resource Center in late May/early June, we are dreaming up all the ways this space can serve our bunny community.

One of our biggest goals for the HRR Center is to create a welcoming place where people can learn about rabbits, connect with other bunny lovers, and take part in fun, educational, and community-centered events.

Think bunny care workshops, Bunny Basics, Bunnies & Books, Bunny Pilates, adoption events, grooming days, family-friendly activities, and more.

But we don’t want to build this calendar alone.

We want to hear from you! Whether you already share your home with a bunny, are thinking about adopting one day, or simply want a cozy place to learn more about these amazing little animals, we would love your input.

What classes would you attend? What workshops would be helpful? What events sound fun? What would make you excited to visit the HRR Center?

This space is being built with our community in mind, and that includes longtime bunny parents, future adopters, curious animal lovers, families, volunteers, and anyone who wants to dip their toes into the wonderful world of rabbits.

While the Bad Bunny, Pig Pen, and P**t have been busy making sure everyone knows just how chaotic baby bunnies can be, their sisters have been having their own little glow-up in another foster home.

These girls were much smaller and underweight, so they needed a little extra time, bottle feeding, and close care to make sure they were growing safely and getting strong.

And well… look at them go. 💛

Their foster sent us this video of the girls hopping, zooming, and showing off, and it is safe to say they are now just as strong, energetic, and ready to cause trouble as their brothers.

They may have started out tiny, but these little girls are catching up fast and getting ready to take on the world one hop at a time.

Nick and Cookie found their forever home together!

And yes, Cookie is looking amazing. Since coming to HRR, she has lost weight, gained confidence, and now has the best workout buddy by her side: her husbun, Nick. The two of them have been busy running around, exploring, and settling into their forever home together.

When Cookie’s mom came to us, she already knew one thing for sure. She wanted Cookie to be happy. She was hoping to adopt Cookie and find her a friend, and she trusted the process enough to let Cookie choose who that friend would be. It did not matter what he looked like or who he was, as long as he loved Cookie back.

Enter Nick.

Nick was the last of his siblings still waiting for a home, and we had always known he was something special. Sweet, gentle, and made for the free-roam life, he seemed like the kind of bun who just needed the right person and maybe the right bunny to finally see him.

Then came his speed date with Cookie.

When our Executive Director saw how well the two of them did together, she knew they had something worth building on. So she brought them home and personally worked on their bond, giving them the time, patience, and support they needed to become the pair they were clearly meant to be.

Now Nick is no longer the last sibling waiting. Cookie is no longer searching for her perfect match. And their mom has not one, but two very loved bunnies hopping through life together.
