No air-conditioning in Houston? How are people expected to survive? Their expected to go to work and some are working outside. Some are working in hot warehouses and then there’s barely any protection for workers in the workplace. How do you expect the morale of the everyday working Houstonian to be positive and to be uplifting, if they have to leave a hot job, come home to a hot home and have no help in that matter.

Heat illness is preventable when employers provide shade, water, and rest. Too many job sites still ignore these basic protections, especially where workers fear retaliation for speaking up.

More than one in ten construction workers are undocumented, and they are disproportionately targeted for misclassification and wage theft. Fear of deportation keeps many from reporting violations. We fight for every worker, regardless of status.

Today, community members gathered at Houston City Hall to honor Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and make their voices heard. Family, friends, advocates, and supporters shared their grief, their memories, and their calls for answers.

Many spoke about the need for a complete and transparent investigation, while protesters outside continued to chant “ICE Out of Houston,” demanding accountability and justice.

The turnout was a powerful reminder that Lorenzo’s life mattered and that Houstonians are standing with the Salgado Araujo family during this difficult time. The community’s message was clear: they will not stop seeking answers and justice for Lorenzo.
