CRITICAL CALL TO ACTION: Tell the Texas House Public Ed. Comm. to Vote NO on Unaccountable Vouchers That Will Increase SBISD's Recapture Payments. Email the House Public Education Committee before 9am!
https://tinyurl.com/VoteNOvouchers

The Texas House Public Education Committee is about to vote on Senate Bill 8 (SB 8), a bill that aims to create school voucher Education Savings Accounts (ESAs). While these vouchers may seem like an attractive proposition on the surface, it's important to understand the detrimental effects they could have on our schools.

No Accountability: Firstly, these vouchers lack any form of accountability. If passed, SB 8 would allow recipients of these ESAs to spend them on virtually anything they choose. This means that instead of your tax dollars being directed towards the betterment of our public schools, they could be spent on non-educational expenses, thereby reducing the overall quality and availability of educational resources in our district.

Vouchers Will Cause Higher Recapture Payments for Spring Branch ISD: Secondly, the introduction of these vouchers could significantly increase the "recapture payments" that Spring Branch ISD is already obligated to make. Recapture is a state policy that requires wealthier districts like ours to share their tax revenues with less affluent districts. If school vouchers lead to lower attendance in our schools, our district's wealth per student will increase, triggering a rise in our recapture payments. This means fewer funds for our local schools, leading to larger class sizes, fewer resources, and a decline in the quality of education we can offer.

ACT NOW! Tell your legislators to increase the basic allotment by at least $1,000! Use this form for an easy way to contact every legislator that can help our students: https://tinyurl.com/fundSBISD

Deep budget cuts are coming to Spring Branch ISD if we don't get some relief. SBISD is a wealthy school district with poor district needs, and our students will not be served by the paltry current allotment of $6,160. Recapture is taking $5 million in property taxes to balance the state budget.

57% of our students are economically disadvantaged, yet SBISD will suffer an $87 million loss from Recapture, and this will continue to rise each year. This means our district will be forced to make serious budgetary cuts. We risk losing staff, cutting back on campus security, increasing class sizes, re-zone and combining schools, and more. The budget cuts of 2011 have taken a decade to recover from, and we cannot afford the same fate again now.

You are NOT powerless. You CAN help change the future. Take action today by filling out the form linked below to tell your Texas Representatives to add at least $1,000 more to the basic allotment. https://tinyurl.com/fundSBISD

The Spring Branch Color Run is happening Saturday morning. Dress warmly and come support efforts to provide funding for the Spring Woods High and Northbrook High proms. Each school will receive a $10,000 donation from the fundraising for this event, with the remainder to be held for managing this annual event again next year. The donations to the schools will offset the cost of prom tickets for the students, so more seniors can enjoy this tradition without it being cost prohibitive.

Every student deserves to have a wonderful and memorable prom, and the Spring Branch Color Run brings together our community to help the schools fund a fun and special prom event.

Families 4 Every Child will be joining and cheering on as everyone races and enjoys the party that follows. Concessions will be available, including pizza, donuts, drinks, chips, hot chocolate, coffee, and candy. Handwarmers will be in the concession stand to make sure everyone stays toasty warm as we gather at Emnora Bike Trail. The schedule is:

9:00am Registration and check-in Opens
9:40am Kickoff Presentation
10:00am Race Starts
10:30am Color Zone Dance Party

For those who want to support this event, please come and run or help volunteer by throwing color or helping with cleanup!

We hope to see you all there and that you all stay warm this weekend!

Support SBISD Students as they prepare for school!

Join us at this important Back to School Fair on Saturday. We are grateful for the opportunity to join the effort led by Stephanie Morales to ensure much-needed supplies are brought to the families of Spring Branch ISD as we head into the new school year.

Providing pens and highlighters, backpacks, or even soap and toothbrushes, these critical items help prepare our SBISD community for the best possible start to the school year.

Many families experience additional hardship during this time of year, with back-to-school shopping a financial burden that can strain budgets. Students who lack adequate school supplies experience a negative impact on their learning potential. Children thrive when provided with the tools they need to begin the school year ready to engage in their lessons.

We ask each and every one of you to please assist in covering costs with a direct financial contribution via https://secure.actblue.com/donate/back-to-school-fair?fbclid=IwAR1TiTKXuc1h61aBykIwxYLpKEFVpb3s-fe6pXM_gSBiwIzG_l8oKbSP7EM or consider purchasing from https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2MRB619V8YX8C?ref_=wl_share.

To receive supplies, please register at https://form.jotform.com/stephaniefortexas/back-to-school-fair-registration?fbclid=IwAR0TcGxy__4xbIYJqnZbXYeGAsJTX0OyNB2Ck3yzikuzwIZbWX0wAATL3fg.

This year it is critically important to add your voice and vote!

It is vital to speak up and vote for the candidate that will improve education, support the student, and reach for a better tomorrow.

We are also very proud to have endorsed the bond, as the only non-PTA organization to have formally done so. Please vote for the CTE programs and a new Guthrie Center... vote YES to the bond.

We would like to address some rumored concerns that any candidate who submits answered questionnaires to our organization may be targeted by a local blog. In the interest of complete transparency, we are extending our deadline to the candidates until Saturday at noon. Part of our mission is to assist the voters in educating themselves. Our organization is a non-partisan, issues-based PAC that cannot make direct campaign donations to candidates.

We wish only to provide voters with the tools needed to make an informed decision at the ballot box. We will not allow anyone to bully the voters or s***f out their ability to learn about the candidates—especially since not everyone can attend the forums or meet-and-greets. For this reason, we are first sharing our questionnaire with you exactly as it has been sent to all eight candidates, and we will publish any responses we receive on our candidate comparison page which is ready to be launched in the coming days.
