It was nearly six months after Helene on a cool spring morning in Green Mountain. We were spending time in the shop at CRI with Colton and his team when Colton began telling us what happened that day, September 27, 2024.

It wasn't planned, but it was the first time he had spoken to anyone openly about what he went through - as a volunteer firefighter and first responder, a husband, a father and friend to many in his small mountain community. He told us how God carried him and his family through an insurmountable trial and, in the aftermath of the storm, led them to establish CRI.

Back at the Airbnb where the Day 41 team was staying, Kris was working on a song for children's ministry at our home church and stopped for a minute to reflect on Colton's testimony. It had left a profound impression on everyone who had heard and Kris, being moved by the story, began strumming some chords and started writing a song about it called 'The Day Green Mountain Cried'.

We posted the song last year on the anniversary of Helene in remembrance of all affected by the storm but also to honor how the Lord brought so much good out of a horrific event.

Two years later, the needs are still there. Food, warmth and shelter. Prayer and Bibles. The Lord's healing hand over a part of our country that many have forgotten about. We wanted to share this song again because it reminds us why the Lord has called us to serve and where His heart is.

We hope you will take some time today to pray for the parts of Western North Carolina that are still recovering, for the families that have fallen through the cracks, and the churches and relief centers that are enduring to minister to their community two years later.

Thank you to Appalachian Navy WNC for coming up to Ohio to pick up both of these campers to take back to families in WNC! Thank you also to our generous friends who donated these campers, those who helped move and transport them locally, and to Hands of Christ for the donation of essential supplies going back with the campers!

We were blessed to meet Pastor Aaron and Pastor Andy with Simple Church during our relief trip to Reynoldsburg, Ohio! Pastor Aaron shared what his church and the Reynoldsburg Hope Center Ministry are doing to care for their community's local needs and response to recent flooding in the area.

Please pray for Texas. They were hit with more severe flooding last month and now widespread wildfires. Pray that the Lord will send help to the firefighters, emergency responders and the homes and livelihoods in the path of the fires. Pray that Christ will be known in the midst of the disasters. God bless Texas.

Our hearts are with Texas today.

The situation is heartbreaking. The Ross Fire in North Texas has exploded to more than 80,000 acres, making it one of the largest active wildfires in the country. Fueled by extreme heat, dry vegetation, and powerful winds, the flames have raced across ranchland in Palo Pinto and Jack counties, forcing evacuations, closing roads, disrupting schools, and destroying homes, businesses, and historic buildings. Firefighters are working around the clock from both the ground and the air, but the fire remains only partially contained, and changing winds continue to create dangerous conditions. (ABC News⁠)

Please join me in praying for every family that has had to leave their home, every rancher watching generations of hard work threatened, every firefighter standing on the front lines, and every first responder risking their lives to protect others.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1)

Father, we ask You to send rain, calm the winds, strengthen every emergency worker, protect lives and property, and bring comfort to those who have suffered loss. Surround the people of Texas with Your peace, Your provision, and Your presence. We believe You are still our refuge in times of trouble. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Day 41 is preparing to head up to Reynoldsburg, OH, to provide donations for those affected by recent flooding. If you would like to help, we are collecting the following items:

Bibles
Personal hygiene products (ie, deodorant, shampoo)
Laundry detergent
Dish Soap
Paper towels
Toilet Paper
Clorox wipes
Trash bags
Baby supplies (ie, diapers, wipes, formula)
Electrolyte drinks
First aid supplies
Non perishable foods (easy to make)
Canned goods
Work gloves
Rakes
Shovels
Box fans
Dog food, cat food
Generators (working condition)

We are also planning to take two campers to Barnardsville, NC which were donated by good friends here in Ohio.

We are thankful for everyone who prays, gives and volunteers to help this ministry! God is good!

Our drop off at CRI went well! It’s always great to see Colton and his family, and other familiar faces of Green Mountain!
Please continue to pray for this community. They’re in the rebuilding stages now after almost two years since Helene. The work continues, but we know the Lord is faithful!
