💙💙 Foster Care Awareness Month Ends Today, But the Conversation Cannot.

Children are removed from their homes every day, but removing a child from danger is only the beginning. What happens next matters.

A child needs more than a case plan. They need stability. A child needs more than a placement. They need belonging. A child needs more than survival. They deserve the opportunity to thrive.

As conversations continue about the future of child welfare in Louisiana, we must remember that the responsibility cannot fall solely on DCFS staff, foster parents, or child welfare agencies. Protecting children requires investment from all of us.

We need stronger prevention services, family preservation programs, kinship support, mental health resources, quality foster homes, educational opportunities, and transition services for youth aging out of care. We need communities, businesses, faith leaders, policymakers, and citizens willing to invest in children before crises occur not only after.

Awareness without action changes nothing.

Let's build a Louisiana where families receive support before they reach crisis. Let's listen to youth with lived experience. Let's strengthen communities so children can remain safely connected to family whenever possible. Let's ensure that no young person leaves foster care feeling alone.

Because every child deserves more than a bed.

They deserve a future. 💙💙

Today hits different. 💜

Mother’s Day has always carried many emotions for us because today is also our biological mother Ladell’s birthday.

There was once a time when our pain spoke louder than our understanding. We were angry. Hurt. Confused. We questioned her existence in our lives and struggled with the reality of our story.

But maturity has a way of shifting perspective.

As we’ve grown, we’ve learned that healing does not always erase the past — sometimes it teaches you how to hold it differently.

Today, we choose gratitude.

We thank Ladell for giving us life. Because of her, we are here.

But we also honor the women who mothered us — our Mom, Louise, and our Mama Anna. They poured into us, guided us, protected us, corrected us, prayed for us, and loved us through the chapters that shaped us into the women we are today.

One gave us birth.
Others helped give us life.

And somehow, through all of it, God wrote a story bigger than our pain.

So today, we honor every version of motherhood:
The women who birthed us.
The women who raised us.
The women who loved us when life felt uncertain.
