In the spring of 1965, a group of harbor timberman met to discuss what they could do to restore interest into their community's logging heritage. That meeting gave birth to the first Loggers Playday, which was held in conjunction with the Hoquiam's Diamond Jubilee celebration. The Loggers put on a logging show at Emerson school with various events like Log chopping, Choker setting, Ax throwing and

many more. Harborites gave the first Playday show an enthusiastic baptism and there where so many requests for a repeat performance that the newly~formed Playday Committee decided to make the colorful affair an annual event. By the third annual event a parade was in place that was held by the Hoquiam Elks, and three young girls fro Hoquiam High school were the first Hoquiam Loggers Playday court. Lewis

In April of 1970 it was discussed that Loggers Playday parade truck would start entering their Dobeer Donkey in other parades around Western Washington. By 1978 the committee had grown to over 40 members. With Support from the Local business around the Harbor this tradition has been successful for nearly 50 years.
