Hello Hope/Sunrise Community,
Friends of Hope is a 501(c)(3) non-profit Corporation/Community Service Organization created with the purpose of preserving the historic, peaceful character and small town atmosphere of Hope, and to protect the quality of life of our town by advocating for responsible and community-minded policies for all residents and businesses.
This organization was formed in response to years of complaints regarding the impact on daily life by Creekbend Company’s increasingly loud, and frequent live music events. Important qualities of life in Hope, like quiet streets, peaceful porch evenings with friends and neighbors, restful nights of sleep, and private property boundaries are now increasingly rare on a summer weekend. Last summer there were 44 ticketed events, between April and October; virtually every summer weekend. This summer, every weekend in May and June are already booked.
Repeated attempts to communicate directly with Creekbend’s owners and reach an informal agreement - to turn down the volume, provide more toilet facilities and parking space, and hold concerts that are less intrusive on the community - have had little effect. We are hoping there is a compromise possible that is supportive of local business, live music and summer visitors, which also works for residents of the community itself.
FOH would much prefer to reach a resolution with Creekbend, however due to the lack of response, FOH is requesting that the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board carefully consider the renewal of Creekbend’s Restaurant Eating Place License in light of these concerns.
To be clear: This is not an attempt to shut down one business. It is not a stand against live music, local musicians or community events. It is a request from dozens of people who live here, to be heard. It is also about respect, balance, and the reasonable compromises necessary to maintain those things in one small valley.
