March of Dimes Alabama is thrilled to have Tre Luna Bar and Kitchen and Tre Luna Catering at this year’s Birmingham March of Dimes Signature Chefs™ Auction on November 5th at Regions Park!

Brian Mooney is the owner and executive chef of Tre Luna Catering and Tre Luna Bar & Kitchen, and owner of Moon-Walker Inc., a consulting company, all located in Birmingham, AL. Born on Long Island, NY, but raised in Boca Raton, FL, Brian got his start in the hospitality industry at his father’s poolside bar, where he worked the grill every summer. When his father sold the bar to two Italian brothers, they took Brian under their wing and introduced him to Italian cooking.

Continuing his passion for food, Brian attended culinary school in West Palm Beach at the Florida Culinary Institute. While working at the Dancing Bear in Fort Lauderdale, Brian met his now-wife, Erin. Together, they relocated to Birmingham, AL, so Brian could work for Frank Stitt at Bottega, which is where he fell in love with Southern food and cooking. Following his time at Bottega, Brian and Erin went on to start Tre Luna Catering in 2014, and after several successful years, Tre Luna Bar and Kitchen in 2019.

At Tre Luna, Brian takes a simple yet elevated approach to his cooking – letting each ingredient stand out while crafting an elegant dish that is reminiscent of home cooking. When starting Tre Luna, the team’s motto was “bringing our table to yours,” which still rings true today. Brian finds joy in having the freedom to create and prepare dishes in his own way and watch people enjoy them. And in doing so, he makes a great effort to ensure his team feels taken care of, while providing an experience for guests that instills a sense of dining at home. Tre Luna, which means “three moons” in Italian, is a nod to the early days of Brian’s restaurant career, Erin’s Italian heritage, a play on the duo’s last name, “Mooney,” and a reference to their three children. He is proud of the example he and Erin have set for their children; that hard work and determination pay off. When not in the kitchen, Brian enjoys spending time with his family, swimming, fishing, and traveling.

Preeclampsia is a serious health problem for pregnant people around the world. In the U.S., it affects about 1 in every 25 pregnancies. While most people who have preeclampsia have healthy babies, this condition can cause serious problems. People who have preeclampsia are more likely to deliver their baby too early (before 37 weeks of pregnancy).

If you’re at high risk for preeclampsia, your provider recommends low dose aspirin. Talk to your doctor about your risk and whether low dose aspirin is right for you.

Join us today in celebrating the rich culture, history, language, and tradition of Indigenous peoples. We also take a moment to recognize the ongoing challenges Indigenous peoples face in the U.S. such as discrimination, poverty, lack of access to healthcare and prenatal care, and more.

More than 25% of extremely low birthweight babies at Intermountain Health St. Vincent Hospital NICU in Billings, Montana are Native American. In an effort to provide culturally appropriate support, one of the things that the NICU Family Support team does is make moccasins from scratch for, and with, the families.

Together, we can all fight for understanding, respect, and health equity for Indigenous communities.

When Erica was pregnant, doctors told her that her daughter, Nia, had a rare, lethal form of dwarfism and recommended she terminate the pregnancy. But Erica and her husband, Antoine disagreed and chose hope. After Nia was born, they learned she had been misdiagnosed. Nia spent 118 days in the NICU, underwent successful open-heart surgery, and is now thriving.

At a young age, Nia had experienced both Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and flu, but because Erica stayed on top of vaccinations and treatment, her symptoms weren't as severe as they might have been had she not been informed about preventive measures.

Did you know that most babies get Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) before their second birthday? While most healthy infants experience mild, cold-like symptoms, some are at risk of severe RSV. This includes babies who have health issues or weakened immune systems, are in daycare, or are exposed to secondhand smoke.

Talk to your baby's healthcare provider in Alabama about ways to prevent RSV, especially if your baby falls into a high-risk category. Stay informed by learning about preventive measures that can help keep your baby safe and healthy.

Born at just 25 weeks and weighing only 1.8 pounds each, twins Peter and Andrew faced impossible odds from the very start.

The next morning, baby Andrew passed away peacefully in his father’s arms. As Kelly and Billy grieved the loss of their son, Peter began a grueling seven-month battle in the NICU.

Kelly spent countless long, quiet days by Peter’s bedside. In those moments of deep isolation, simple acts of care, compassionate nurses, and vital support from March of Dimes helped carry them through the unimaginable.

Today, Peter is a joyful 4-year-old preschooler who loves music, laughs constantly, and continues to defy the odds every single day. As they honor Andrew’s memory, Kelly and Billy hope other NICU families know they don’t have to face this alone. 💜

“At 24 weeks I thought, ‘there's no way I'm going into labor right now.’”

But Ramsey Wheeler was in labor, and hours later, her son Cameron was born at just 24 weeks and 1 pound, 11 ounces.

Cameron spent 172 days in the NICU, facing heart surgery, oxygen support and feeding challenges. For Ramsey and her partner, Brandon, the experience was overwhelming and isolating.

Through March of Dimes NICU Family Support®, the family found comfort, connection and support when they needed it most.

This NICU Awareness Month, we’re sharing Cameron’s story to shine a light on the realities families face in the NICU — and the importance of making sure no family has to navigate that journey alone.

Today, Cameron is a curious, playful toddler who loves to crawl, climb and flip through books. 💜

For 25 years, NICU Family Support® has been there for families when they need it most. Today, we’re honoring NICU nurse and dad John Glenn, whose own experience inspired him to volunteer with March of Dimes. He facilitates a virtual support group for dads through the NICU Family Support, reminding fathers they don’t have to navigate the NICU journey alone.

Since 2001, we've reached more than 1.25 million NICU families across the country, helping them feel informed, supported, and less alone during some of their most difficult days. This year, we're celebrating 25 years of NICU Family Support® by honoring the families, healthcare providers, and partners who have made this work possible.

Together, in Alabama and across the nation, we're building a future where every NICU family gets the support they need, today and for generations to come. 💜
