Mahalo to everyone who helped make this year’s Juneteenth Hawaiʻi celebration at Manoa Valley Theatre such a meaningful evening.
Thank you to Manoa Valley Theatre, Shervelle and WOW Productions, Mr. Franc Coffee, all of our talent, judges, contestants, audience members, volunteers, and the theatre’s technical team. Special mahalo to Katie for the beautiful décor and to Paris Vapaille-Watson for co-coordinating the evening and presenting the inaugural Juneteenth Hawaiʻi Royal Court Pageant.
Congratulations to every contestant who stepped onto the stage and to our newly crowned royalty. Your courage, preparation, and presence helped make history through the first-ever Juneteenth Hawaiʻi Royal Court Pageant.
Through fashion, performance, education, and community, we celebrated the lives and contributions of remarkable Black women throughout history. Yet we recognize that no single production could ever tell the full story. There are an infinite number of Black women whose lives, leadership, creativity, resilience, and contributions continue to shape our world every day.
This event is for all of us.
Whether you were seated in the theatre, watching from afar, or represented only through memory and legacy, this celebration was dedicated to honoring your impact.
We also dedicate this evening to Sharon Yarbrough, whose grace, leadership, and commitment to community touched countless lives. Her presence continues to inspire the work we do and the connections we build.
Mahalo for celebrating with us.
With gratitude,
