The Homer Lions 🦁 Club welcomed ADA Jim Colvin and his wife Laura as our guests today at our noon meal at the CP Library. Mr. Colvin is candidate for District Attorney for the 2nd Judicial District for the parishes of Claiborne, Bienville and Jackson. Mr. Colvin explained the role of the DA’s and its importance in law enforcement and judicial system.

It is with great sorrow that our club lost one of its most faithful members this morning after his courageous battle with cancer - Lion 🦁 John David Watson was an inspiration to us all and an asset to his church and community. Please keep his family in your prayers.

The Homer Lions 🦁 Club celebrated their 100th year of existence today with a birthday celebration 🎉 complete with 🎂 ice cream 🍨 and grilled hotdogs! Lion Wesley Harris took us on a walk down memory lane with the history of our club. We we like to thank Lion Serena Cox for providing the cake and hotdogs for the festivities - come join us!

Last Thursday we had Claiborne Parish Registrar of Voters, Mrs. Tracy Starkey, update us on the new changes concerning the closed primaries in the upcoming May election. Mrs. Starkey did an excellent job explaining the role of the Registrar and the many facets of voting.

The Homer Lions 🦁 welcomed Mrs. Rosalind Penegar with DART as our guest speaker today. October is Domestic Abuse Awareness Month and DART is very vital in the fight against Domestic Abuse.

What a good program today at the Homer Lions Club! We had the honor of hearing from Randy Rogers, who shared his inspiring work to revitalize Dubach through his "Dubach Legends" community projects. From the stunning fountains to the beautiful flag on Hwy 167, the restored bird watching walk, the picturesque pond, baseball field, and even the freshly repainted buildings in Dubach, Randy's efforts to inspire the Dubach community to pitch-in and give back are truly transforming the town.

A huge thank you to Randy for sharing your passion and vision with us today! Your dedication to Dubach is an inspiration to us all. 💫🙌

Homer Lions Club Meeting. . .

Homer Lions Club will meet Thursday, November 14, 2024, 12 noon, at Claiborne Parish Library.

Lion Wesley will be testing our knowledge with his Claiborne Parish History trivia questions, so brush up on your Claiborne Parish history facts.

For example, do you know the area in our parish where the town Lexington was located?

This will be our Thanksgiving meal, which includes fried turkey, ham, dressing, collard greens, hot water cornbread, and peach cobbler. Feel free to bring a guest.

Our Lions Club pecans have arrived. They are at the library this year, not at the Tax Assessor's office.

Plain pecans are $10.00/bag.
Chocolate and roasted pecans are $12.00/bag.
A case of pecans contains 12 bags.
A case of plain pecans is $120.00
A case of special pecans is $144.00.
Cash or check only.

A great idea for those of you with grandchildren!

We are happy to announce that our "Check Out Louisiana State Park" backpacks and passes are ready for use!

The State Library of Louisiana and the Louisiana Department of Tourism have done an excellent job of putting this project together. Claiborne Parish Library is one 21 public libraries in Louisiana chosen to participate in the pilot program in conjunction with our beautiful Lake Claiborne State Park, other Louisiana state parks, as well as historic sites in Louisiana!

Patrons in good standing can come by the main library in Homer to check out a backpack and a one-day pass to any State Park or Historic Site in Louisiana. Or if you want a pass and no backpack, you may check out just the pass.

The backpack is checked out for 7 (seven days) it contains: compass, magnifying glass, binoculars, card stock pamphlets for identification of trees, birds, flowers and other wildlife that might be found at Louisiana's State Parks, and some Eco-friendly tips for conservation of our natural resources. The Park Pass is good for one-day.

The backpacks and the gate passes may not be renewed. The backpack comes with the responsibly of returning the pack and its contents in good condition for other users.

Patrons may only check out these materials every six weeks - so everyone will have an equal chance to use these privileges.

We are proud of our Louisiana State’s state parks and historic sites; this is a great way to take your kids outdoors and let them learn the joys of nature and develop a love for history!

We appreciate Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser and the work he does for Louisiana in promoting our best to the world, and the State Library of Louisiana. We are fortunate to have their guidance and help, we have a wonderful heritage of promoting life-long learning.
