Jim, Jennifer and new member Jacob tried DBA with the latter's delightfully bright Hundred Years War 28s. First a small seven-base-a-side skirmish to learn the rules, then a not too successful attempt at Free-Kriegspieling a siege scenario we thought up on the fly. Turns out DnD, 1973 style, needs more work, but we had fun anyway.

A day of contrasts at the War Office today. The morning game was the Battle of Gonzales, the start of the Texas Revolution. A hard fought win for the Mexicans this time, but the Gonzales militia sold their lives dearly and held the guns at the end of the battle.

This was followed by Cruel Seas, with Kriegsmarine S-Boats coming off second best to the Royal Navy forces screening the Dieppe Raid.

WW2 action at the War Office today, as recce forces from Panzer Lehr clash with US Armoured Cav. close to St. Lo, in July 1944.

A hard fought battle with the John's US forces coming out on top over Mark and Jacob's Germans.

General Quarters, General Quarters! All hands to action stations for our 1:1800 recreation of the Battle of Empress Augusta Bay, a WW2 naval action between the US and Japan in November, 1943.

This is a gunnery action between surface warfare ships, fought at night in the Solomon Islands. There were plenty of surface gun duels like this is the Pacific, all fought at night because of the dominance of airpower over naval operations.

We're trying out a new wargame system called "Gunflashes at Midnight" - still in pre-alpha playtesting to see how it runs with live players.

Will the Americans win out with their faster-firing, radar-controlled guns? Or will the Japanese score an upset with their larger guns and dreaded โ€œLong Lanceโ€ torpedo?

Crap, I never put this up here ...

Earlier this month, we had a pretty successful "live" physical playtest of a new system I have under design: "Gunflashes at Midnight" earlier today.

Scenario was the Battle of Empress Augusta Bay (off west coast of Bougainville, wee hours of 2 November 1943).

These are "staged" photos, the actual gameplay was recorded for an upcoming video (Part One coming out tomorrow).

An Appeal To Heaven, Nantasket Roads ( Boston Harbor) May 25, 1776. 15mm Naval using Fighting Instructions-Small Ships rules. Washingtonโ€™s Navy flying the Pine Tree Flag/Ensign raid British anchorage in search of supplies/prizes. Capt Manley in Schooner Franklin accompanied by Brig Lady Washington attempt to cut out RN Ordnance ship Hope. RN Brig Gloucester and Doug gun boats attempt to fight off the Americans. Bill Bennett (building owner) donated the flag and book about the first Continental flag. Franklin wasnโ€™t able to capture Hope and much needed muskets and ammunition, but took Gloucester prize!! Fun game!

Recent game at the War office:
Jumonville Glen, May 1754 using FFOL opposing card decks. Va Regt and Mingo launch surprise attack on French ( La Marine Company). Jumonville reads French proclamation only to be kIA by Half King (d12) rolling 12 to hit, 11 wound. As engagement develops Washington leads Virginians and takes prisoner at sword point! French fall short of Draw VC. Nice game Tom R!
