CW: Sexual Assault

Recently, a BBC Panorama investigation revealed that multiple women were sexually assaulted by their onscreen “husbands” during filming for Married at First Sight UK. Another woman reported being subjected to a non-consensual sexual act.

According to reports, concerns were raised during production, yet episodes still aired before the series was eventually pulled and canceled.

Too often, reality television prioritizes ratings, conflict, and profit over participant safety and consent. Harmful behavior is ignored, minimized, or repackaged as entertainment.

Reality and unscripted television could benefit greatly from stronger safety practices, including bringing organizations like Hire Survivors Hollywood on board to consult, and help create comprehensive survivor-centered plans that prioritize wellbeing before, during, and after filming.

Today, and always, we stand with the survivors of Married at First Sight UK, and with all survivors and Silence Breakers.

Thank you to for sharing information in your own highly informative post that we have utilized in this post!

CW: Sexual abuse, systemic abuse

At the recent Cannes Film Festival, Cate Blanchett spoke candidly about the unraveling of the movement and the ongoing systems that continue to protect abuse in Hollywood and beyond:

“It got killed very quickly, which I think is interesting. What it revealed is a systemic layer of abuse, not only in this industry but in all industries. If you don’t identify a problem, you can’t solve the problem. You shut that conversation down. You can’t move on.”

We agree with Cate’s assessment of why there are always attempts to kill movements such as these. As a matter of fact, Care Blanchett and our founder discussed these very issues back in 2023 when they met at an event. And while there have absolutely been efforts to silence, discredit, and dismantle the movement, is still very much alive. Silence Breakers continue speaking out every single day, advocates continue pushing for accountability, and survivors and allies continue creating change both publicly and privately around the world. Is the change fast enough? No. Do we have the level of support we all deserve? No. Have the changes reached a level where there is true safety and equity? No. Are we proud of all the changes that have been made? Yes. Will we continue this work every single day? Yes.

Survivors deserve to be heard, protected, believed, and supported. Today, and always, we stand with all survivors and Silence Breakers.

CW: Sexual assault, r**e, abuse of power, court

A judge in Manhattan declared a mistrial today after a jury was unable to reach a verdict on the charge that Harvey Weinstein r**ed actress Jessica Mann in a hotel room in 2013. This marks the second time a jury has deadlocked on this specific r**e charge.

Jessica Mann first testified against Weinstein during his 2020 trial, which resulted in a conviction and a 23-year prison sentence. That conviction was later overturned, leading to a retrial where Mann once again took the stand and recounted her experience over several days of testimony.

Mann revealed that Weinstein arranged a hotel room during a planned meeting in New York and r**ed her there. He demonstrated a pattern of coercion and abuse of power that mirrored behavior experienced by numerous other Silence Breakers over the years.

Justice Curtis Farber dismissed the jury this afternoon, stating it was “quite clear” the jurors were “hopelessly deadlocked.” Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg will now decide whether prosecutors will pursue a fourth trial on the r**e charge.

The delays, deadlocks, failures, and lack of accountability that often come with navigating the criminal justice system can be difficult for survivors to witness and experience.

For anyone feeling activated by this news, it’s okay to step away, tune out updates, and prioritize your well-being. Spend time with people, spaces, and activities that help you feel safe, supported, and cared for, and give yourself permission to regulate your nervous system in whatever ways feel accessible to you.

While this news is infuriating, a mistrial does not erase testimony, lived experience, or the courage it takes to come forward. Today, and always, we stand with Jessica Mann, with all survivors and Silence Breakers of Harvey Weinstein, and with all survivors and Silence Breakers.

CW: sexual abuse, celebration of abusers

Louis C.K. received a standing ovation last week at the Hollywood Bowl during Netflix’s “Netflix Is A Joke” festival, marking yet another major industry-backed comeback after he admitted in 2017 to sexual misconduct involving multiple women.

Louis C.K. publicly acknowledged the abuse after several women came forward, admitting that he masturbated in front of women and during phone calls with them.

Now, less than a decade later, he is headlining major venues, receiving standing ovations, and premiering a new comedy special with Netflix.

For many survivors, moments like this send a painful message about whose comfort and careers are prioritized in Hollywood. Time and time again, the entertainment industry proves that survivor’s safety, boundaries, and professional wellbeing are often treated as secondary to profitability, nostalgia, and protecting powerful abusers.

This is also an example of an abuser getting to have a “comeback” after zero reparative action, zero accountability, and zero change while survivors continue to suffer from career damage and retaliation, financial harm, and lack of tangible, consistent support.

Supporting survivors means more than issuing statements during cultural moments. It means creating industries where people can report misconduct without fear, where accountability is meaningful, and where survivor voices are not erased the moment the spotlight fades.

Today, and always, we stand with the survivors and Silence Breakers of Louis C.K., and with all survivors and Silence Breakers.

CW: industry retaliation, blacklisting, abuse of power

More than 4,000 actors, directors, writers, and entertainment professionals have signed an open letter opposing the proposed Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery merger. Signers include Florence Pugh, Pedro Pascal, Sofia Coppola, Denis Villeneuve, Edward Norton, and our Founder Sarah Ann Masse.

In a new New York Times op-ed, Mark Ruffalo and American Economic Liberties Project research director Matt Stoller revealed that many others privately supported the letter but were too afraid to sign publicly.

The op-ed describes “a deep, ugly and pervasive fear of speaking out” in Hollywood. Ruffalo and Stoller also shared examples of retaliation connected to criticism of the merger, including negative media coverage and pulled advertising.

The merger would further consolidate power in the entertainment industry, reduce opportunities for creators and workers, and leave audiences with fewer choices. The open letter warns that fear and silence grow stronger when industries become more concentrated and unchecked.

At Hire Survivors Hollywood, we know how power imbalances can silence people. When workers fear losing jobs, representation, or opportunities for speaking honestly, accountability becomes harder to achieve.

Today, and always, we stand with artists, workers, whistleblowers, survivors, and Silence Breakers advocating for transparency, fairness, and safer industries.

CW: Sexual assault, r**e kits, justice system

After 16 years of survivor-centered advocacy, the Joyful Heart Foundation’s End the Backlog campaign has reached a historic milestone: all 50 states, Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico have now enacted at least one pillar of r**e kit reform.

Founded in 2004 by actress and activist Mariska Hargitay, the Joyful Heart Foundation was created to support survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse while working to change how systems respond to abuse. She became a leading voice in the fight to address the hundreds of thousands of untested r**e kits sitting in storage facilities across the country.

Since 2010, the End the Backlog campaign has worked to eliminate those backlogs and push for meaningful reform through its Six Pillars of R**e Kit Reform: mandatory testing, statewide tracking systems, survivor notification rights, dedicated funding, and other measures designed to ensure accountability, transparency, and dignity for survivors.

While there is still work ahead, this milestone represents a powerful reminder that sustained advocacy can transform systems that once failed survivors.

CW: Child sexual abuse, systemic abuse, institutional failure

Happy Sunday to the Community! Every Sunday, we highlight survivors and Silence Breakers and the important work they’re doing.

Today, we’re celebrating Adèle Haenel.

Adèle Haenel is a César Award-winning French actress, activist, and Silence Breaker. In 2019, she revealed that director Christophe Ruggia sexually harassed her when she was a minor, describing years of inappropriate behavior that began when she was just 12 years old.

She is a vocal advocate for survivors of sexual violence and has used her platform to protest systemic injustice, including her widely recognized walkout at the César Awards. In 2025, she joined the Global Sumud Flotilla, a humanitarian mission working to deliver aid to Gaza.

After stepping away from commercial cinema, she continues her work through independent theatre and artistic collaborations that center social awareness, resistance, and collective healing.

Thank you, Adèle Haenel, for all the good you do.
