Safety is always a priority for Chippewa Valley Electric and Dairyland Cooperative, which is why the cooperatives each gave $1,000 to the emergency landing helipad project, located on the Chippewa/Rusk county lines. Members of the cooperatives, and representatives of the Lake Holcombe Resort and Business Association, joined together Oct. 24, to inspect the helipad and voice their approval of the work done. The completed helipad will be utilized by the adjoining county EMS, for air transport of accident victims or those with health emergencies, such as heart attack or stroke. “We recognize the growing importance of efficient emergency response capabilities, which had been a challenge in this remote service area of our territory,” said Russ Falkenberg, CVEC president/CEO. “Minutes matter, which is why we are grateful for the chance to contribute to this worthy cause.”

UPDATE: We are happy to announce partnering with Barefoot Painter, LLC for the final helipad markings. After consultation, the markings will be done this Spring to allow the concrete to fully cure before paint is applied. However, the helipad is fully operational for all first responder use and has been added to the communication center directories for flight landings!

As construction is nearing completion on the Northern Chippewa County and Southern Rusk County helipad, donations continue and are welcome to help with maintenance of the emergency landing site. In a challenge to other clubs and organizations, the Indianhead ATV Club gave $1,000 toward the helipad. “We’d like to challenge other ATV clubs to donate,” said Charlene Lund, Indianhead club secretary. Present for the donation, left to right, are Lund; Wendell Risser, Sheldon Fire Department and EMS; and Kody Morfoot, helipad committee chair.
