“I’m booooored.” 🫠 It’s day three of summer and you’ve already heard it 47 times.

Summer break is a gift and a marathon. Less structure can mean more meltdowns, more screen battles, and more of you wondering what on earth to do with these long, open days, especially for kids who feel safest when they know what’s coming next.

So we made you something. And it’s free. 🎉

Our Summer Survival Kit: a collection of practical tools, printables, activities, and connection resources designed to help your family navigate summer with confidence.

A little structure. A lot of connection.💗

As we’ve gone through National Foster Care Awareness Month, maybe you have wondered how you can care for families who are fostering. We would love to offer up some ideas for you!

These simple types of support can be the difference between a family feeling burnt out or feeling energized in their work in caring for vulnerable children. Even if you feel like you can’t say “yes” to taking the next step in fostering, these are some ways we can all say “YES!” in creating places where kids can feel loved.

We would love to hear from you, what are other ways we can be caring for the foster families in our communities and churches?

Meet the Diego family!

We would love for you to watch this video to hear the Diego’s story about when foster care doesn’t look like you expect.

If you have any questions on how your family could be involved in foster care or caring for families who are already fostering, reach out to us at [email protected]!

Joe & Jenn Diego share their family's story on their entry into becoming foster parents. They weren't expecting to take in teenagers but ended up welcoming a teenage girl because their was a need. The unexpected twist brought three teenagers who brought just as much joy.

Last month, Andrew’s Closet welcomed a group of students from Red Lion Christian Academy who volunteered to help sort through the large volume of clothing donations we had received over the past few months. We are so grateful, their help was a tremendous blessing and we were able to restock many of our clothing bins.

We love opportunities to serve alongside the next generation, helping them learn about foster care and the importance of supporting and caring for vulnerable children.

Thank you to Red Lion Christian Academy and Sue Toms for organizing!

📚Hey Book Readers!📚

Our Book Recommendation this week is Fostered by Tori Hope Petersen... Here's what our Program Director Kimbo Beckler had to say about this book:

"Fostered is a memoir by Tori Hope Petersen, a former foster youth who experienced 12 different foster homes, pain and suffering from both biological and foster families, and yet today is an adoptive/foster mom sharing about what saved her from her dark circumstances: JESUS. Any person courageous enough to share the story of their experience of foster care deserves to be listened to. Tori Hope Petersen not only gives substance to the sometimes cloudy assumptions of foster care experience, but also provides great hope through the reminder of that pivotal moment '....but God!' in each of our stories of brokenness."

Have you read Fostered? If you have, let us know what you thought in the comments! Or, let us know if you are planning to read it soon!

Would you join us today in praying Psalm 23 over children in foster care and their families? Pray that they would know the love and care of the Great Shepherd and that they would be protected from evil all of their days.

We have loved sharing these scriptures and prayers with you and hope you have, too. If you want more scriptures to pray over kids, visit familyhopecoalition.org/national-foster-care-month to download the prayer guide from The Forgotten Initiative .
