This Memorial Day, we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

As we reflect on their courage and service, we are reminded of the importance of protecting the freedoms, communities, and natural treasures they fought to preserve.

Wishing everyone a peaceful and meaningful Memorial Day.

Please urge our legislators to honor the commitment they made to fund Florida Forever at $100M dollars and remove the restriction on fee-simple land purchases. Often land most at risk of development is owned by sellers who want to sell, not retain ownership under an easement. Valuable and vulnerable land will be lost forever to development if a purchase option is removed. Further, rolling back this funding leaves significant, anticipated land conservation projects unfunded.

Jim Howe and the Friends of Jonathan Dickinson State Park have good news to share: "The Perch", the new Kitching Creek viewing platform, is now open!!

The result of a unique and groundbreaking partnership between The Friends of JDSP and the University of Miami School of Architecture Design/Build Lab, a new covered viewpoint into the park has been installed to gives hikers a great vantage point to witness our beautiful wilds.

The first photo below shows Professor Rocco Ceo from U of M in front of the new structure. He and his teaching partner, Jim Adamson, as well as the team of students that designed and built it, did a fantastic job, and delivered "The Perch" (student-named) on time and under budget. One photo is of the back of it; the one with Rocco is a front view. The third photo captures the classic vista upstream from The Perch's bench seats.

This project is notable in that the design and installation required NO money (except staff hours) from the State and was entirely funded by The Friends, a 501.C.3 non-profit. Which could use *your* support! The project was funded through a grant from the Florida State Parks Foundation.
