When much of the world pauses for the holidays, the Rescue America Hotline does not.

Just before Thanksgiving, a mother made a brave choice. She left an exploitative situation with her young daughter, determined to protect her child and begin rebuilding their lives.

Reaching out for help takes strength and humility, especially during a season when others are busy and many doors are closed.

Because the Rescue America Hotline was open, she wasn’t alone to figure out next steps.

With the support of a caring community, this family was surrounded with warmth—meals shared, needs met, and steady encouragement through an uncertain week.

After Thanksgiving, a safe placement became available, and they arrived ready to take their next steps toward healing.

This is why we stay.

This is why we answer the phone again and again.

Because survivors know this is a place they can come back to.

Sometimes the most powerful moments happen behind the scenes.
A few months ago, one of the survivors we served was traveling alone for the first time — without ID, navigating an unfamiliar airport, and overwhelmed by fear.
A Southwest Airlines® employee noticed her distress and chose to slow down. He walked with her through the airport, stayed with her through TSA, helped her rebook when she missed her flight, and made sure she had everything she needed to continue safely — including printed boarding passes and a meal voucher.
It wasn’t required. It wasn’t expected.
But it made all the difference.
This is what compassion in action looks like — and we are deeply grateful for partners like Southwest Airlines® who show up with empathy, care, and humanity when it matters most.
