American Legion Post #87 High Point, NC

Several years ago when I joined the American Legion Post 87, it was about what you’d expect of an American Legion Post in a 70 year old building. It was run down dark and smoke filled. It seemed like an impossible task to bring it back to life but we did it. It took a lot of hard work by an all volunteer team but we hit each part of the building with a plan and some elbow grease and I’m pleased to say we have finalized the last part of the remodel. I want to thank every person that pitched in over the last few years to get this done.

Today in recognition of 9/11, Post 87 provided breakfast to the men and women of the High Point Fire Department Elm Street station and presented the following letter. We would like to extend our gratitude to all first responders on this day.

September 11th Recognition and Expressions of Gratitude

Dear Chief and Members of the High Point Fire Department,

On behalf of the veterans and members of American Legion I.T. Mann Post 87, we write to express our deepest gratitude and respect to the brave men and women of the High Point Fire Department.

As our nation pauses to observe September 11th, we reverently honor the memory of the innocent lives lost in 2001 and remember the extraordinary heroism of the 343 firefighters and first responders who selflessly ran toward danger. Their supreme sacrifice remains a powerful testament to the highest ideals of duty, courage, and service to others.

That same spirit of selfless service is demonstrated every day right here in High Point through your unwavering commitment to our community. Day and night, you stand ready to protect our families, neighborhoods, and city. As military veterans who have also sworn an oath to defend and protect, we deeply recognize and honor the sacrifices made by you and your families to keep our community safe.

Thank you for your vigilant service, your bravery, and your steadfast dedication to High Point. Please know that the veterans of Post 87 stand proudly beside you in support and gratitude.

With highest regards and respect,

James Street
Commander, American Legion Post 87
