On June 2nd, we commemorate the historic 1946 referendum where Italians voted to abolish the monarchy in favor of a democratic republic.
Also on this date Italian women voted for the first time for the nationwide election.

On April 26th, Nico Frandi, the new Consul General of Italy in Philadelphia, was welcomed in Charlotte NC for a 3-day of networking, diplomacy, culture and commerce visit. The last day - was focused on educational programs, and he made a visit to the CCI - NC Weekend Italian School, which was joined by our Ciao Hickory Italian School for kids.
Here in the picture - the General Consul of Italy in Philadelphia (Nico Frandi) and the Honorary Consul of Italy in Charlotte (Valentina Cecchi), together with our executive director Maria Grosso, Sara Brumana (Italian teacher) and Rosa Poppante (volunteer).

Our nonprofit organization (though new and modest in size) serves a really important function in a broader context: smaller cities like Hickory - and even more rural areas - may lack resources to establish formal diplomatic missions, therefore we would like to facilitate connections and encourage collaboration among local entities and provide information and solutions for our communities.

This is our last gathering before the summer break!
Ciao Hickory monthly gatherings will stop for the months of June, July, August, and will resume in September.
Join us tomorrow evening for some social time outdoors, and learn all about the amazing initiatives our nonprofit will organize after the summer!

This was: Colazione Italiana! (Italian breakfast) ☕🥐

A few weeks ago we partnered up with Club italiani in Charlotte for this event - and it was just like being in Italy on a usual Saturday morning 😍
Cappuccini, espressi, paste, cannoncini, and a lot of friends. Thanks to all the group leaders and volunteers from the Club Italiani in Charlotte and thanks to Raffaele, the owner of Mano Bella Artisan Foods for the space.
