NCTA Chief Noonday Chapter

NCTA Chief Noonday Chapter Chief Noonday NCT volunteers manage the trail in Barry, Kalamazoo, & Calhoun, Michigan Counties.

The North Country National Scenic Trail extends from west central North Dakota to the west edge of Vermont. Our Chapter of volunteers provides support for the trail in SW Michigan, although occasionally we venture out to help in other areas.

A Chief Noonday Chapter member has plans to attend the 2026 Buckeye TrailFest taking place on Sept. 10th – 13th in East-Central Ohio (about a 5 ½ hour drive)

She has reserved a cabin and has space for 4 to join and share the adventure and the cost.

If you have attended past “NCTA Celebrations” you know the fun of hiking, meeting new friends and learning more about other parts of the NCT! If you haven’t taken part – this is your chance! Contact Julie at [email protected] to learn more.

🌲🪚 Chief Noonday Chapter Members Complete Sawyer Training! 🪚🌲

On May 30–31, four members of Chief Noonday Chapter spent their weekend participating in the National Park Service Sawyer Training in Lowell. This intensive 16-hour course covered the safety practices and skills needed to safely remove downed trees and help keep the North Country Trail open and accessible for hikers.

With 14 attendees in the class, Chief Noonday Chapter was well represented! Our volunteers do an incredible job responding whenever a fallen tree is reported along the trail.

If you encounter a downed tree or other trail concern while hiking, please help by reporting it at: northcountrytrail.org/the-trail/report-trail-conditions/

A huge thank you to all of our Chapter's Sawyers (chainsaw operators) and Swampers (their safety and support partners) for their dedication to maintaining some of the finest sections of the North Country Trail.

Trail angels in action! 🌲✨

On Monday, trail angels Joyce and David dropped Tanya Bromley off at Peets Road to begin her 17-mile hike. Not only did Tanya get her miles in, but she also did some serious scouting! She reported back on three major blowdowns blocking the path:
📍 Near Peets Road
📍 South of Hall Lake
📍 Near Circle Pines

Reporting these blowdowns is incredibly helpful. It allows our amazing volunteers to know exactly where to go to keep our trails clear and safe for everyone.

Thank you so much for the teamwork, Tanya, Joyce, and David! Happy hiking! 🥾🎒
