Last weekend, the Federated Women’s Club of Hershey proudly united in support of the YWCA Greater Harrisburg’s mission to assist and house victims of domestic violence, during our GFWC International Day of Service. The YWCA serves Dauphin, Cumberland, and Perry counties and offers emergency services for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and violence, and human trafficking. The Federated Women’s Club of Hershey recognized the YWCA’s critical need of many items to support women in crisis.
The GFWC International Day of Service collection event was held at the Englewood Farmhouse, which was once the site of the domestic violence shelter for the Hershey area. There, club members, family and friends, and our wonderful and generous community members donated many needed items.
The event resulted in the following brand-new items being delivered to the YWCA:
41 packages of bedsheets
15 bed pillows
16 blankets and comforters
8 pillow covers and pillowcases
2 mattress pads
115 pairs of underwear
59 bras
200 pairs of socks
12 bath towels
41 washcloths
22 containers of deodorant
20 bottles of body wash
19 bottles of shampoo
15 bottles of conditioner
4 bars of soap
3 packages of facial cleanser
14 packages of laundry detergent
52 bottles of dish soap
2 laundry baskets
Miscellaneous toiletries and beauty supplies such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, hair products, razors, shaving cream, lotion, wipes, mouthwash, hand sanitizer, lip balm, travel sized items, poufs, and many more.
The total value of items donated to the YWCA for their shelter for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and violence, and human trafficking, was $4,187.
The Federated Women’s Club of Hershey will continue to support the YWCA Greater Harrisburg as part of our committed efforts to end violence against women. We would like to sincerely thank everyone who supported this event by donating time, money, or needed items. We would also like to thank everyone who liked and shared our posts, the local businesses who allowed us to hang fliers, and many thanks go to the wonderful owners, manager, and employees of the Englewood Farmhouse for allowing and facilitating our event to take place at their shop.
