Highlights from this week’s City Council meeting:

🏄 Discussed Hermosa Pier Improvements and Surfer Walk of Fame Plaques Project
Directed staff to complete high-priority repairs to the Pier; returned discussion on Surfers Walk of Fame Plaques and Pier Replacement Projects to staff.

💰 Conducted Midyear Budget Review Approved budget revisions and transactions, deferred vehicle replacement funding, continued Beach Cities Transit Line agreement and directed staff to evaluate public transportation system.

👟 Modified Kelly Courts Pickleball Hours & Rates Modified pickleball hours of operation to 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., designated Friday as free walk-on play day, directed staff to evaluate noise and updated rates.

♻️Los Angeles County is hosting a Household Hazardous Waste collection event from 9am-3pm January 17 on Valley Drive near the Clark Building. This is a chance for residents to safely dispose of electronics, oils, paints, and other hazardous waste for FREE.

We are required to notify the public before a checkpoint is conducted. The Hermosa Beach Police Department will be Holding a DUI / Driver’s License Checkpoint on December 19th, 2025 from 7pm to 3am at an undisclosed location.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.

“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Traffic Officer Dadigan said. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.”

The Hermosa Beach Police Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational ma*****na are legal, driving under the influence of ma*****na is illegal.

Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.

Funding for this deployment was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
