Lubbock Fire Rescue joins fire departments across the State of Texas in mourning the tragic line-of-duty death of Odessa Fire Rescue Lieutenant Isai Huerta, who lost his life after being injured while operating at a residential structure fire on Sunday evening.

We extend our deepest condolences to the members of Odessa Fire Rescue, Lieutenant Huerta’s family, friends, and loved ones, and the entire Odessa community during this unimaginable loss.

June 13: A Severe Thunderstorm Warning for northwestern Randall County, southeastern Oldham County, northeastern Deaf Smith County and southwestern Potter County until 10 PM CDT. At 9:05 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 4 miles west of Wildorado to 12 miles south of Vega to 11 miles north of Hereford, moving east at 20 mph.

60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail possible. Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

May 26 @ 1245 PM: As we continue to watch showers and storms increase today, we have had several instances of tropical funnels and landspouts, especially across the southern TX Panhandle. Conditions will continue to support weak spin ups, but damage is not likely with these features.

From the office of Emergency Management, there have been several sightings of land spouts that have been confused as tornadoes. They are not tornadoes and it has been verified by radar by National Weather Service.

The county has received some rain but not near enough, had a large fire out off of I-40 on Bridwell Ranch, yes this is still in Deaf Smith County, we cover a little over 1500 square miles, continue praying for rain and for our Firefighters , Hereford,Dawn and Bootleg and mutual aid from Bard-Endee, Grady, Broadview, Adrian FD’s and the Forest Service, Hereford EMS, Deaf Smith County SO, Motor graders from Ford and Bootleg.

Watching all of the Panhandles for rain chances today, in particular starting later this morning through the afternoon and evening hours. Higher chances for rain will be in the southern TX Panhandle compared to the northern combined Panhandles. Check back for updates to the forecast throughout the day.
