Spirit Cove is a trauma-informed animal-assisted services organization creating moments of calm, comfort, and connection for people navigating stress, grief, trauma, illness, and isolation. TimberKnolls Spirit Cove is a 501c3 non-profit organization that was started in North Carolina in 2018. Our mission is to spread hope and healing to people overcoming illness and trauma through animal therapy, primarily with giant Newfoundland dogs. We are building a therapy ranch in Hendersonville, NC, that is expected to open in the Spring of 2025. We have more than 50 actively working, registered volunteer animal therapy teams nationwide, with a large concentration of volunteers in the Southeast. We focus on supporting community heroes and front-line workers who support, serve, protect, and nurture our society, including veterans, first responders, healthcare workers, educators, and other essential workers. I’m sorry I’ve been so quiet and haven’t shared an Abraham update sooner. The past several weeks have brought some unexpected challenges, and caring for our animals has needed my full attention.

But today, I’m incredibly grateful to share some wonderful news: Abraham is doing amazing!

After an extraordinarily long healing journey, Abraham has officially graduated from the formal wound-management program at Fetch Specialty & Emergency Veterinary Centers. His veterinary team was finally able to successfully close his wound using his own skin—something we hoped and prayed would one day be possible.

We are now focused on rehabilitation and helping him rebuild strength in his leg, one careful step at a time.

Meanwhile, his beloved Halle Bear is recovering from TPLO knee surgery. Because these two are nearly inseparable, they are spending their recovery side by side on matching orthopedic beds—resting, healing, and keeping a close eye on one another.

We are profoundly grateful for Abraham’s incredible veterinary team, for everyone who helped make his care possible, and for every person who has continued to love and pray for him throughout this journey. He has overcome so much, yet his beautiful spirit remains as bright as ever.
