Yesterday, the elementary school was full of joy, creativity, and learning during our Holiday Fair!
The Unit Study in December was Holidays Around the World. Each student studied a holiday they do not personally celebrate, including Onam, Obon, Hanukkah, Eid al-Fitr, Mardi Gras, and many more. Guided by curiosity and respect, students explored how traditions and holidays are celebrated around the world and how those traditions can be shared with others.
The guiding inquiry question was:
How do we celebrate traditions and holidays in our own families, how do people celebrate around the world, and how can we share that with others?
Students shared their learning in creative and engaging ways:
Creating handmade crafts, such as paper lanterns, clay dreidels, and gifts
Prepared or shared food connected to their holiday, including king cake for Mardi Gras, rice balls for Obon, Arabian pudding for Eid al-Fitr, and more
Took on the role of game show hosts, quizzing visitors with fun facts and questions about their holiday traditions
The fair was filled with conversation, laughter, and meaningful exchanges as students practiced teaching others what they had learned. More than a presentation, the Holiday Fair was an opportunity for students to build empathy, celebrate diversity, and develop confidence in sharing their knowledge.
We are incredibly proud of their hard work, creativity, and thoughtful engagement.
