🚨 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! STEW WEEK! 🚨

It takes a lot of hard work behind the scenes to make our stew sale happen, and we need YOUR help!

Schedule:

• Thursday evening: Cutting meat

• Friday mid-morning: Picking chickens start until completed

• Friday 5:00–11:00 PM (most help needed): Hand stirring the stew

• Saturday 4:00 AM: Dipping stew into quarts

Each pot is hand stirred until ready, and the entire process truly takes a team effort from start to finish. If you can give an hour or stay for a shift, your help truly makes a difference.

🚒 OFFICIAL FUNDING ANNOUNCEMENT — $550,000

The Watkins Community Volunteer Fire Department is proud to announce a $550,000 state funding award to strengthen fire protection and emergency services in our community!

This funding will help us:

• Construct our second station in the Dabney area of our district, bringing emergency services closer to the residents, businesses, and travelers we serve.

• Reduce response times and improve emergency coverage in that portion of our district.

• Renovate our current station to better support our firefighters and daily operations.

• Better serve our automatic and mutual aid partners, strengthening emergency response throughout Vance County and surrounding communities.

• Prepare for continued growth while building on the progress our members have made through training, fundraising, and responsible use of resources.

We extend our sincere thanks to North Carolina Senator Lisa Barnes, whose leadership and advocacy were instrumental in securing this award.

• She listened to our needs and worked to turn them into meaningful support.

• Her continued commitment to our department, firefighters, and families has helped put us in a position to take this next step.

• Her efforts will have a lasting, positive impact on the safety of our community and county.

Thank you, Senator Barnes, for investing in the people we serve and the firefighters who answer the call.

Preparation has begun for our stew sale! Members spent time yesterday evening assembling boxes, just one of the many behind-the-scene tasks.

Thank you to the Young Hearts of the Moose and Henderson Moose Lodge for inviting us to participate in Community Heroes Day! We appreciated the opportunity to meet with local children, share a closer look at our fire apparatus, and serve alongside Vance County Fire Department , Kittrell Vol. Fire Dept, and the N.C. Forest Service.
