Montana Public Lands Council The MT Public Lands Council is a leading state organization in monitoring, initiating and coordinating actions on priority public lands issues in the state

HISTORY OF THE MT PUBLIC LANDS COUNCIL

Since the earliest settlement of the West, and particularly Montana, ranchers have been the caretakers and stewards of open, federal rangeland. This arrangement has been a mutually beneficial one-lessees of federal lands are responsible, environmentally-conscious land managers in partnership with the federal government. In turn, these lands, in combination w

ith private lands, help to create many viable ranching operations for rural families, contributing to local economies and the western way of life. OUR MISSION

The main responsibility of the Montana Public Lands Council is to develop and coordinate unified policy positions and pursue legislative and regulatory actions that most effectively represent Montana public lands grazing users. The Montana Public Lands Council is a leading state organization in monitoring, initiating and coordinating actions on priority public lands issues in the state. The Montana Public Lands Council also works closely with the National Public Lands Council in Washington, D.C., on a number of national issues affecting federal lands grazing. NATIONAL PUBLIC LANDS COUNCIL

Public Lands Council strives to maintain a stable business environment for ranchers with public lands grazing permits, who are the caretakers of the range, the economic drivers of rural western communities, and providers of food and fiber for the nation.

The Montana Public Lands Council (MPLC) and Public Lands Council invites grazing permittees to a roundtable on Thursday, May 21, 2026, in Miles City to discuss federal lands grazing issues. The roundtable will bring together permittees and lessees with leadership from the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management in an effort to increase dialogue and on-the-ground problem solving for grazing issues in fulfillment of the USDA/DOI Grazing Industry Plan released by the Departments last fall.

The roundtable will be designed to provide feedback to USDA and DOI about existing regulations and guidance documents, improvements in administration of the programs, and methods to improve communication between the agencies and permittees.

Permittees and affiliate staff partners are invited to attend and engage in productive dialogue with federal agency partner staff. The discussion will be moderated by PLC staff and leadership.

Please RSVP in advance for the location and further information ahead of the roundtable. RSVP link: https://forms.gle/xmeFdz6x5huuDwMi6
