The Montana Public Lands Council (MPLC) and Public Lands Council invites grazing permittees to a roundtable on Thursday, May 21, 2026, in Miles City to discuss federal lands grazing issues. The roundtable will bring together permittees and lessees with leadership from the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management in an effort to increase dialogue and on-the-ground problem solving for grazing issues in fulfillment of the USDA/DOI Grazing Industry Plan released by the Departments last fall.

The roundtable will be designed to provide feedback to USDA and DOI about existing regulations and guidance documents, improvements in administration of the programs, and methods to improve communication between the agencies and permittees.

Permittees and affiliate staff partners are invited to attend and engage in productive dialogue with federal agency partner staff. The discussion will be moderated by PLC staff and leadership.

Flagstaff brought together the sharpest minds in public lands management this week. Our MPLC leadership joined Public Lands Council for their Annual Meeting and attended sessions on everything from regulatory reform to wildfire outlooks, all focused on keeping public lands ranching alive and thriving.

The MPLC Board will be meeting jointly with the MASGD Board at the MASGD Annual Meeting in Lewistown at the Yogo Inn on June 17, 2025. The board meeting will begin at 9:00 AM.

Day 2️⃣ in DC. Yesterday, MPLC leadership started the day with our Montana congressional delegation at Montana Coffee. We then spent some time in a Senate Energy & Natural Resource Committee hearing for a bill of Senator Daines.

This week, MPLC leadership is in Washington DC for the Public Lands Council Legislative Conference! On our first day we heard learn more on tax and tariffs and heard updates from USFS, BLM, and the Congressional Western Caucus.

The day wrapped with updates from the House Natural Committee and Senate Environment and Public Works Committee on Permitting Reform.
