What is social connectedness? Social connectedness is the degree to which people feel they belong and are supported and valued in their relationships with others. People who have close, supportive relationships have been shown to live longer, have less stress, better overall physical and emotional health, decreased feelings of loneliness, and greater quality of life.

Join the Iredell Senior Center every Tuesday at 10am for their weekly Cardio Drumming Class!

Cardio drumming is a fun workout that combines drumming with aerobic exercise. This class is perfect for all fitness levels! Can be done standing or seated (all songs can be modified for those seated). All you need is a pair of drumsticks and something to hit on; options include a chair, a turned-upside-down trash can, or a stabilized yoga ball. This toolkit was developed by the NC Center for Health and Wellness at UNC Asheville in partnership with the NC Department of Health and Human Services Division of Aging. This toolkit was developed to raise awareness about how social isolation and loneliness can negatively impact health, share evidence-based practices for improving social engagement and connectedness, and provide resources and guidance to help others create similar programs for their communities.
