Great coverage of Congressman Courtney's visit to the future site of Church Street Commons this week, from the Willimantic Chronicle!

HEBRON — It’s the rare development that develops good will as well as land, but the proposed Church Street Commons in Hebron seems to be fostering both.

It was a beautiful day for Congressman Joe Courtney to visit Hebron and see the site where Church Street Commons will be built.

The federal department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded the Town of Hebron $250,000 to renovate the former rectory building into two apartments as part of Church Street Commons.

On hand to thank Congressman Courtney were members of the Commons CDC Board of Directors (Rob Mangiafico, Ron Kolanowski, Betty Close, and Donna Jolly); Geoffrey Person, from development partner Grow America - formerly NDC; Kathy Dorgan, the architect; Hebron Town Council chair Tiffany Thiele and council members Jan Lawrence and Claudia Riley; and Town Planner Matt Bordeaux.

We’re so grateful to everyone who came out last evening (despite the fact that our meeting coincided with a UConn men’s basketball game!) to learn more about Church Street Commons.

We had the opportunity to share a lot of info about the housing development, why it’s being built, for whom, how it’s being funded, and who we’re partnering with.

We appreciated the great questions and hope we were able to answer them effectively.

We’ll continue to have more community conversations as there is more news to share. And we’re starting email updates as well. If you weren’t able to attend last night and would like to be added to our email list, email us at [email protected].

We are grateful for all of the support we’ve received from the Town, from the various boards and commission, from business owners and nonprofit service providers, from faith leaders, and from community members!

Great news! The federal government approved $250,000 in funding for the rehabilitation of St. Peter's Church rectory building as part of Church Street Commons.

An application for funding from the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) was submitted by the Town of Hebron two years ago (on behalf of Commons CDC) and approved by Joe Courtney’s office for $500,000.

We greatly appreciate the support and persistence of Rep. Courtney and his staff in ensuring that a portion of this request was approved and funded. Thanks also to the Town of Hebron and Town Planner Matt Bordeaux for submitting the application.

The rectory building will be renovated to become rental units as part of Church Street Commons.

Welcome to our page! We're excited to share updates about the work of Commons CDC, starting with our first project - Church Street Commons in Hebron!

This will be a 50-unit mixed income housing development on beautiful land leased from St Peter's Episcopal Church.

Our all-volunteer Board of Directors has been working for three years on this project and we've made incredible progress. We have approval from Hebron Planning & Zoning, funding from the state Departments of Housing and Economic & Community Development, and tremendous support from town leaders, nonprofit organizations, faith communities, business owners, and community members.

Church Street Commons will greatly benefit the community as well as seniors, young professionals, people who work in Hebron but can't currently afford to live there, and others who want to live in our beautiful, high-opportunity community.

Follow us as we make Church Street Commons a reality in Hebron.
