At Light the Night, we celebrated my sister beating cancer as she held her white lantern. Around her stood family and friends holding gold lanterns in loving memory of Beau, honoring his fight and the love he left behind.

Today, on World ALL Day, we honor one of our very own my sister, Brooklyn. 🧡

At just 12 years old, Brooklyn was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). What followed were years of treatments, appointments, hospital stays, medications, fear, and challenges that no child should ever have to face.

But Brooklyn fought. 💪🏼

After nearly three years of treatment, she beat ALL and entered remission. Her journey didn’t end when treatment did. Cancer left lasting effects, including needing a hip replacement at only 16 years old. But she kept moving forward.

Today, that 12-year-old little girl who battled leukemia is grown, married, and a mom to two beautiful children. ❤️

Our family knows both sides of blood cancer 😞 the incredible joy of watching Brooklyn survive ALL, and the unimaginable heartbreak of losing her brother, Beau, to AML years later.

That is why BeauStrong exists.

We fight for more birthdays. More survivors. More brothers and sisters who get to grow up together. More children who get to become adults, spouses, parents, and everything they dreamed of being.

Today we celebrate Brooklyn, every ALL survivor, those still fighting, and the families walking beside them.

Brooklyn beat ALL. And we will keep fighting until every family gets the chance to say the same. 🧡🎗️

🏈❤️ GAME DAY ❤️🏈

Ohio State vs. Texas means one of our favorite family rivalries is back. 🌰🤘

Most of us will be yelling O-H-I-O, but we know Beau is up there proudly throwing his horns up and probably talking plenty of trash. 😂

Some things never change… apparently not even Heaven could turn that boy into a Buckeye. 😉

So today we’ll cheer a little louder, laugh at the memories, and think about our favorite Longhorn.

Go Bucks… sorry, Beau. 😂❤️🤘

Today is World Leukemia Day. ❤️

There are some words you hear once and never forget.

“It’s leukemia.”

Our family has heard those words twice.

The first time was in 2009, when our Brooklyn was only 12 years old.

Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)

We were terrified. We watched a little girl trade pieces of her childhood for hospital rooms, chemotherapy, procedures, medications, blood draws, and appointments. We watched her be brave when she never should have had to be.

For years, our family lived around leukemia.

We prayed. We cried. We celebrated good counts. We feared bad ones. We held our breath waiting for results.

And eventually, we got the ending every family facing leukemia desperately prays for.

Brooklyn survived. ❤️

We watched her grow up.

We watched her graduate.

We watched her fall in love.

We watched her get married.

We watched her become a mom.

We got to watch her LIVE.

And maybe because of that, when leukemia came back into our family 13 years later, part of us believed we knew how this story went.

We had beaten it before.

Surely, we could beat it again.

But this time, it was our Beau.

Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML)

And this time, leukemia didn’t give us years to fight.

It didn’t even give us weeks.

Less than one week after his diagnosis, Beau was gone.

Sometimes that sentence still doesn’t feel real.

How could we have one sibling who survived leukemia and another who barely had the chance to fight it?

How could we know the overwhelming joy of watching Brooklyn grow up after cancer while also knowing the unbearable pain of wondering who Beau would be today?

There are so many things we should still be watching Beau do.

More birthdays.

More golf.

More holidays.

More family pictures.

More laughing until our stomachs hurt.

We should be watching him grow older alongside his siblings.

We should be watching him be Uncle Beau.

We should still be able to call him.

Hug him.

Hear his voice.

We should have had more time.

And that is the cruel reality of leukemia.

Our family has experienced both sides of it.

We know what it feels like when treatment works and you get to bring your person home.

And we know what it feels like when you would give absolutely anything just to bring them home one more time.

Brooklyn is our living reminder that research and treatment save lives.

Beau is our forever reminder of why there is still so much work left to do.

That is why we are THORNESTRONG.

Beau, we wish more than anything that you were here to see what has been built in your name. We wish we never needed a memorial page, a memorial golf outing, or a way to keep your memory alive — because we wish you were simply still here making memories with us.

But since we cannot change our story, we will use it.

We will say your name.

We will tell Brooklyn’s story.

We will raise awareness.

We will support families.

We will raise money for blood cancer research.

And we will keep fighting for the day when every family gets Brooklyn’s ending.

Survival.

Today we honor the sister we are so incredibly blessed to still have, and we remember the brother we would give anything to have back.

Two siblings.

Two leukemia diagnoses.

One became a survivor.

One became our angel.

And both changed our family forever.

Brooklyn — we thank God for every single year we have been given with you. ❤️

Beau — there will never be a day that we stop wishing we had been given more with you. 🕊️

Until every family gets more birthdays.

More holidays.

More ordinary Tuesdays.

More hugs.

More life.

Until everyone gets the chance to grow old.

We will keep fighting.
